Yunnan's Cultural Tapestry Attracts Tourists in Thailand's Ayutthaya
Discovering Yunnan's Cultural Charm in Ayutthaya
On November 23, 2025, the historical city of Ayutthaya in Thailand was transformed into a gateway for the charms of Yunnan province, located in Southwest China. The Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism organized a vibrant tourism campaign aimed at not only promoting travel to Yunnan but also fostering a lifestyle that beautifully intertwines tourism with local culture and everyday life.
A Stunning Display of Diversity
Attendees were drawn to the event's focus on Yunnan's stunning landscapes and rich cultural tapestry. Known for its breathtaking scenery, including the majestic snow-capped mountains, Yunnan has established itself as China's ultimate tourist destination in recent years. The campaign, themed “So close, yet so stunning — come to Yunnan for snow-capped wonders,” took place shortly after the popular Ayutthaya Marathon 2025, providing an excellent opportunity to reach international participants who came from far and wide, with approximately 4,000 runners converging on this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This year’s marathon, organized by China Daily Asia Pacific in collaboration with various local partners, celebrated the camaraderie between Thailand and China through sports and culture. Participants were excited not just about the race but also about the unique opportunity to learn about Yunnan. With a special offer, Thai passport holders could receive coupons for visiting some of Yunnan’s most breathtaking snow mountains, including Meili Snow Mountain and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, valid for travel from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
Personal Experiences that Inspire
Local residents like Dolhatai Dechakaisaya, a 57-year-old avid runner, expressed their eagerness to visit Yunnan after hearing praises about its stunning natural beauty and cultural diversity from friends. “It’s surprising to learn that Yunnan has so many snow-capped mountains. I’d love to explore more,” she shared enthusiastically. Having embraced running for the last four years, Dolhatai feels that her passion for the sport has not only improved her health but also helped her connect with a community of like-minded individuals.
Yunnan: The Kingdom of Plants and Animals
Often dubbed the “kingdom of plants and animals” and the “world’s garden,” Yunnan has leveraged its reputation to attract both domestic and international tourists. In recent years, the province has prioritized enhancements in its tourism services and offerings, which has led to a surge in interest and visitation. With a tourism slogan that resonates widely — “Yunnan, a many-splendored life” — discussions surrounding the province’s uniqueness have flourished online. In a testament to its success, Yunnan reported a record tourism revenue of 1.14 trillion yuan ($158.7 billion) in the previous year, including welcoming over 6 million international visitors.
The tourism campaign in Ayutthaya set the stage for Yunnan to strengthen its presence in the global tourism market, showcasing that Yunnan is not just a destination, but a multifaceted experience waiting to be explored. With its alluring combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and community engagement, the province continues to hold its place as a beloved hub for travelers seeking both adventure and immersion in local cultures.
