Shaw Industries Executive Joins Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air

Shaw Industries Group, Inc. is proud to announce that Candi Hampton, its Vice President of Global Sustainability, has been appointed as a Commissioner on the newly established Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air. This vital initiative is spearheaded by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and focuses on emphasizing indoor air quality as a crucial public health issue.

The announcement was made during Climate Week at the United Nations, where Hampton joins an impressive assembly of over 170 leaders from various sectors across more than 30 countries. The commission includes notable figures such as a former U.S. Surgeon General and experts from different domains including health, science, real estate, and technology. Together, they are tasked with developing a comprehensive Global Framework for Action to promote healthy indoor air.

Hampton expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Serving on the Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air is both a professional honor and a personal commitment.” She emphasized Shaw’s long-standing awareness of the significance of indoor air quality in both residential and commercial spaces. At Shaw, there is a core belief that environments where individuals live, work, and gather play a crucial role in supporting human health and well-being.

Rachel Hodgdon, the President and CEO of IWBI, expressed excitement for Hampton’s involvement, recognizing her expertise as invaluable to the commission's goals. In the upcoming months, the commission is set to develop national Blueprints that propose targeted strategies for improving indoor air quality.

Dr. Richard Carmona, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States and Co-Chair of the commission, also acknowledged the importance of Hampton's contributions, stating that the agenda they have set forth is critical and timely for public health.

Among the commission's primary objectives are the following:
  • - Elevate Healthy Indoor Air: The commission aims to raise global awareness around healthy indoor air and its importance in public health policies.
  • - Economic Awareness: By underscoring the potential human and economic costs associated with poor indoor air quality, the commission will foster a greater sense of urgency regarding this public health issue.
  • - Global Framework for Action: This framework will outline specific actions that are crucial to transforming the marketplace for better indoor air quality.
  • - National Blueprints: The commission plans to work with local stakeholders to develop specific blueprints tailored to the air quality situations in each country.
  • - Investment in Solutions: A critical part of the commission’s agenda is to encourage investments across various sectors to facilitate the implementation of effective and equitable indoor air solutions.

The release of the commission's Global Framework for Action is slated for the end of 2026, with corresponding national Blueprints being published in phases. Shaw Industries is committed to leading the charge in promoting sustainable practices and human-centered design, which emphasizes the importance of environments conducive to health.
