A Thriving Holiday Tradition: Lights of Esperanza
As the holiday season approaches, Texas A&M University–San Antonio gears up for one of its most cherished traditions—the
10th Annual Lights of Esperanza. This spectacular event, set to take place on
December 2 from
6 to 8 PM, invites students, families, and community members to gather and share in the joy of the season. Over
40,000 dazzling lights will illuminate the campus, making it a magical sight for visitors. The event is free for all, reinforcing its commitment to community spirit.
To commemorate this milestone, participants can anticipate an evening filled with
vibrant entertainment, highlighted by a mesmerizing
laser light show. The university expects around
3,000 guests to partake in this festive experience, where connections and memories are made amongst neighbors and friends.
President Salvador Hector Ochoa emphasizes the importance of this gathering, stating that it reflects hope and unity within the university community. For ten years, Lights of Esperanza has fostered camaraderie among students and alumni, all while providing a joyful escape during the holidays.
Families attending the event will find an array of activities designed to celebrate the festive season. There will be games, rides, and ample
photo opportunities that capture the holiday spirit. Local artists will also showcase their talent through performances, allowing attendees to experience the artistic richness of the region. The lively
Holiday Market will feature various vendors and artisans, providing a perfect opportunity to find unique gifts. And for a bit of fun, light-up Santa hats will be available for guests while supplies last.
The event serves not only as a celebration but also as a testament to the university's achievements. This year, Texas A&M University–San Antonio welcomed
a record 1,295 first-time college students, comprising a large percentage of
first-generation learners and those who are
Pell Grant eligible. The university is proud of its growing role in providing educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds, solidifying its impact within the community.
Beyond the lights and decorations, Lights of Esperanza signifies the continuous momentum of Texas A&M University–San Antonio's commitment to its students and community.
