With a noticeable rise in social media and phishing scams aimed at seniors, many community members expressed concerns regarding their digital safety. Previously, they had conducted security seminars within their classrooms, but recognizing the need for a wider community engagement, they decided to host the seminar in a more accessible location.

Seminar Insights

The seminar attracted a total of 34 participants from the local area, who gathered to gain insights from two police representatives who provided hands-on preventive talks. The Cyber Security Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police discussed various prevalent scam tactics—like fake warning screens and enticing social media invitations—while demonstrating easy-to-implement security settings for smartphones. Moreover, the Kasaishi Police reported tangible examples of fraud occurring in the region, alongside preventative measures tailored to counter these threats.

Participant Feedback

Post-seminar surveys revealed an overwhelmingly positive response: 97.1% of attendees rated the clarity of the information as either very clear or clear, and 97.1% shared that they felt a heightened sense of security awareness as a result of the seminar. Additionally, every participant expressed a desire to implement the practices discussed, signaling a strong commitment to personal cyber safety.

Notably, the top areas of interest highlighted during the feedback included the recent prevalence of scam tactics (76.5%) and everyday precautionary points (73.5%). Participants also voiced a keen interest in digital organization techniques, password management, and the utilization of generative AI, emphasizing a multidimensional approach to enhancing their digital literacy.

Future Initiatives

Wakaruto Dekiru plans to continue its community-focused activities by offering courses on `SNS Security` and `Scam Prevention`. Interestingly, about 30% of these participants were not currently enrolled in any of their computer classes, yet approximately 40% of this group expressed interest in individualized consultations. This highlights a crucial opportunity for seniors who previously felt uncertain about where to seek help regarding their digital concerns.

Looking ahead, the company aims to ensure that seniors feel secure in using computers, smartphones, and various applications. This initiative involves sustained collaboration with local businesses, administrative entities, and community organizations to create a learning environment that fosters safety and knowledge.
