Saylor Academy Transforms into Saylor University:
In a landmark announcement, Saylor Academy has officially been granted approval to operate as Saylor University by the Florida Department of Education's Commission for Independent Education. This significant shift marks the culmination of years of efforts aimed at meeting the necessary regulatory standards for university status. The transition represents a pivotal moment in their mission to provide accessible and high-quality education to learners across the globe, entirely without cost.
Founded in 2008 under the Constitution Foundation, Saylor Academy started as an innovative online learning initiative designed to eliminate the financial and geographical barriers faced by those seeking higher education. Since its inception, the academy has empowered over 2.8 million learners around the world by providing access to a catalog that features more than 150 full-length college-level and professional courses, all available online for free.
The recent transformation includes the introduction of four master’s degree programs in business, which have also been approved by the Florida Commission for Independent Education, allowing Saylor University to offer these tuition-free degrees to students both within Florida and worldwide.
Michael Saylor, founder and trustee of the Constitution Foundation, shared his thoughts on this achievement, stating, "Achieving university status validates nearly two decades of work to demonstrate that world-class education can be delivered at scale and at zero cost to students." He emphasized the university's fundamental belief that the internet enables universal access to higher education, underlining their mission to ensure that anyone with a desire to learn can gain the knowledge and credentials necessary to transform their lives.
Earlier this year, Saylor University also secured international accreditation from the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ASIC), further reinforcing their commitment to quality education and a global reach.
Vision for Global Higher Education Access
While the transition to university status is a monumental achievement, Saylor University continues to pursue an expansive vision:
- - To offer accredited degree programs that are accessible to learners worldwide.
- - To expand partnerships that allow the transfer of credits with colleges and universities globally.
- - To increase recognition of their coursework and credentials by employers.
- - To develop new programs that align with current workforce and technology requirements.
- - To scale access to higher education while dramatically reducing costs.
