In a groundbreaking achievement for the renewable energy sector, CorPower Ocean has become the first company in the world to receive a DNV Prototype Certificate for its Wave Energy Converter (WEC). This pivotal certification signifies a substantial advancement towards making wave energy a viable and bankable energy source. The certification process for CorPower’s innovative C4 model was rigorous, conducted under DNV's DNV-SE-0120 standards. It moves wave energy from being a promising technology to being a proven and bankable one.” The firm is currently progressing with its initial industrial wave farms located in Portugal and Scotland, laying the groundwork for wave energy to emerge as the third-largest source of renewable energy globally, alongside wind and solar power.

The certification by DNV, a globally recognized leader in independent assurance and certification, is a significant endorsement for CorPower's technology. DNV has extensive experience in certifying offshore energy projects, and its stringent certification processes assure that every phase of technology development—from concept through to final deployment—meets high international standards.

The journey towards achieving this certification has spanned over seven years and involved an extensive review of all aspects of the CorPower C4's design and performance. Furthermore, DNV's analysis included stress testing the device against severe weather conditions, ensuring that it can withstand extreme storm waves of up to 18.5 meters. Claudio Bittencourt Ferreira, Project Manager at DNV Renewables Certification, highlighted the collaborative effort, noting that the certification marks a significant step towards commercializing wave energy technology.

For decades, wave energy has been viewed as one of the most promising yet underutilized renewable energy resources. CorPower Ocean’s innovation is built on the principles of high efficiency, ensuring that wave energy is not only accessible but can also be harvested reliably.
