AES Marks Milestone with Completion of First Phase of America’s Largest Solar-Plus-Storage Initiative

AES Completes First Phase of Bellefield Solar-Plus-Storage Project

On June 11, 2025, the AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) proudly declared the completion of the construction for the first phase of the Bellefield 1 project, marking a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector. This ambitious project is designed to encompass a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) under a 15-year engagement with Amazon, contributing toward a greener future with significant environmental advantages.

The Bellefield initiative comprises two distinct phases, each integrating 500 MW of solar energy generation supplemented by 500 MW of four-hour battery storage, aggregating to an impressive 2,000 MW when fully operational. Upon its anticipated completion, Bellefield will hold the title of the nation's largest solar-plus-storage installation.

Andrés Gluski, the President and CEO of AES, commented, "Successfully finalizing the first phase of Bellefield illustrates the swift advancement of solar energy and storage capabilities, essential to accommodate the surging energy requirements of modern data centers." This speedy deployment is pivotal as the demand for renewable resources continues to escalate, and AES will continue to spearhead these developments.

With an established reputation highlighted by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), AES secures its position as a leading provider of clean energy to major corporations and tech giants. The company’s contracts now total an impressive 10.1 gigawatts (GW) across multiple hyperscale clients, with the Bellefield project alone accounting for an additional 2 GW.

Adding to the project's uniqueness, AES has integrated an advanced AI-enabled robotic system known as Maximo. This technology optimizes the performance of construction teams, significantly enhancing the safety, efficiency, and precision of solar module installations—a testament to AES's commitment to innovation in renewable energy.

Strategically situated in Kern County, California, the anticipated output from the Bellefield project is equated to the annual energy consumption of approximately 467,000 households. Furthermore, the project is geared to eliminate over 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per annum, making a notable impact on the atmosphere. During the initial phase's construction, over 700 union jobs were generated, with projections of around 1,000 additional jobs as the second phase escalates.

Looking forward, AES is optimistic about recording substantial earnings linked to the operational commencement of Bellefield 1 in the latter half of this year. Concurrently, work on the second phase of the Bellefield project is on schedule for completion in 2026, demonstrating AES's unwavering dedication to advancing renewable energy solutions.
