The recent event, Routes Asia 2026, held from April 14 to 16, served as a platform to showcase how Xi'an is leveraging its strategic location and aviation capabilities to foster economic growth and connectivity. At the opening ceremony, significant agreements were signed between the Airport New City of Xixian New Area and several international airlines including CMA CGM Air Cargo and CAMEX Airlines. The introduction of five new all-cargo air routes marks a significant step in promoting air freight operations from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, which already boasts an impressive network of 62 international passenger routes. These routes strategically connect Xi'an to eight cities across five Central Asian countries, solidifying its role as a crucial link in the regional aviation landscape.

In 2025 alone, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport handled 48.5 million passengers, nearly 2 million of whom were international travelers, alongside transporting 335,000 tons of cargo. With a peak operational capacity reaching 61 aircraft movements per hour, the airport is set to further expand its operations in the coming years. This growth is bolstered by Xi'an's ambitious goals under its 15th Five-Year Plan, which aims to develop a hub for industrial technology innovation focused on sectors such as civil aviation, low-altitude economy, and commercial aerospace industry.

The city is rapidly evolving into a center for aerospace innovation. Currently, Xi'an hosts approximately 3,987 commercial aerospace enterprises, the most in China.
