New Opportunities at the Tokyu Foundation Cocoon Actors Studio for 2027 Cohort

Embrace the Spotlight: Apply for the 2027 Tokyu Foundation Cocoon Actors Studio

Starting from August 1, 2026, the Tokyu Foundation Cocoon Actors Studio (CAS), a premier educational platform for aspiring actors, will open its doors to applications for the 2027 cohort. Under the leadership of acclaimed director Suzuki Matsuo, this program is designed to foster young talent in a dynamic learning environment.

With the fourth year of operation, CAS will now officially bear the name of Tokyu Foundation Cocoon Actors Studio, reflecting its sponsorship. Participants will be guided by a lineup of accomplished instructors associated with Theater Cocoon, where they will engage in a comprehensive curriculum encompassing not only acting but also singing, dancing, and a variety of performance techniques including stage combat and Japanese traditional theater.

The highlight of this cohort will be a performance directed by the innovative Taketatsu Yamamoto, a recipient of the prestigious Kishida Kuniko Prize for his play "Banana No Hana Wa Taberareru." He brings a unique perspective to contemporary theater, making the upcoming performance of Ensemble Days: They Have Names Too highly anticipated.

Yamamoto expressed, "I have lived in theater thanks to countless unseen kindnesses and support. Through Ensemble Days, I aspire to be on the supportive side this time. I feel that the energy and spirit reflecting kindness is ingrained within the script. Let’s create something magnificent together!"

Program Overview

The CAS will conduct its lessons from April to December 2027, followed by rehearsals and public performances from January to March 2028. Classes will generally occur three times a week in Shibuya and surrounding areas, with each session lasting about three hours.

Application Process: The selection will occur in two stages: an initial video and document review followed by a face-to-face audition for successful candidates. The entire application process opens on August 1 and closes on August 31, 2026.

Participants will learn voice modulation, body expression, script analysis, and engage in practical performance across different genres, from classical theater to creative adaptations.

Additionally, as part of the experiential learning, students will have opportunities to visit production sets of Cocoon's shows and participate in auditions. Special workshops with esteemed guest instructors, including Taketatsu Yamamoto, aim to broaden the participants’ perspectives.
