CB&I to Lead Major LNG Project in Abu Dhabi with Innovative Storage Solutions

CB&I Awarded Contract by TJN Ruwais LNG Joint Venture

CB&I has made headlines recently with its announcement of a significant contract win from the TJN Ruwais Joint Venture (JV) for a pivotal liquefied natural gas (LNG) project located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This massive undertaking marks a crucial step in the region's energy landscape, aiming to deliver the first net-zero LNG facility in the Middle East, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Contract Details

The awarded contract is categorized as substantial, falling between $250 million and $500 million, and encompasses the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of two cutting-edge cryogenic tanks, along with the necessary civil, structural, mechanical, and piping works. Once completed, the two tanks will have a capacity of 180,000 m³ each, positioning the facility as a significant player in the LNG market.

Project Execution

The execution of this project will tap into CB&I's vast network and specialized teams, with the UAE office overseeing tank construction while engineering will be managed from the company's office in Plainfield, Illinois. Additionally, CB&I’s fabrication and modularization support will come from its facilities in Saudi Arabia and Thailand, ensuring efficient delivery and high-quality construction standards.

Mark Butts, CEO of CB&I, expressed pride in the company's longstanding commitment to developing world-class LNG storage solutions in the Gulf region, a mission they have pursued since 1981. He stated, "Our unique ability to ensure execution certainty through our global reach, alongside a balance of cost and quality, permits us to provide unmatched value within the marketplace."

Significance of the Project

The Ruwais LNG project stands out not just for its scale but for its environmental goals. With a target completion date set for early 2028, CB&I aims to contribute further to the ongoing energy transition market, moving towards solutions that prioritize sustainability. The project is seen as a model for future LNG facilities, combining significant storage capacity with carbon-neutral operations.

Timeline and Future Outlook

Construction activities on the LNG project are anticipated to commence by November 2025, setting a steady pace towards a timely completion. This initiative underlines how strategic partnerships, like that of the TJN Ruwais JV—which involves notable players like Technip Energies France-Abu Dhabi, JGC Corporation, and NMDC Energy—can propel advancements in energy infrastructure.
