ESTEVE CDMO Enhances Global Manufacturing with $80 Million Investment in China

ESTEVE CDMO Expands Footprint in China

In a significant move for global manufacturing, ESTEVE CDMO, a prominent contract development and manufacturing organization, has announced a robust investment exceeding $80 million to bolster its production capabilities in China. This ambitious project includes the modernization of current facilities and the establishment of a new site in Shaoxing, aiming to enhance ESTEVE's operational footprint and flexibility in Asia.

This new site will consist of three production halls with a total reaction volume of 250 m³, which can be increased to over 400 m³ depending on changing production needs. This expansion comes at a critical time, as the demand for high-quality pharmaceutical manufacturing continues to rise, particularly for small molecule APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients).

Joan Petit, President of ESTEVE CDMO, stated, "This investment marks a pivotal step in the sustainable growth of our global manufacturing platform. Strengthening our presence in China allows us to bring our capabilities closer to customers in Asia while leveraging our global network expertise. Our goal is clear: to build a world-leading CDMO with the ability and flexibility to support our partners across the globe. This is our driving force as we aim to make a difference in patient lives and contribute to our shared goal of improving lives together."

ESTEVE has maintained a presence in China since 2000, when it established its first joint venture in the country. This long-standing commitment underscores the company’s dedication to addressing the market’s evolving needs with high-caliber technologies such as spray drying and production of highly active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs).

Further, Francisco de Asís Benítez Salas, the General Consul of Spain in Shanghai, commented on the significance of this investment, highlighting how long-term commitment and innovation contribute to local communities' development. This perspective reflects ESTEVE's continued dedication to the region, aiming to foster economic growth and technological advancements.

Sustainability remains a cornerstone of ESTEVE’s operational ethos, with environmental, health, and safety considerations ingrained in the facility’s planning and operations. The new site has been awarded a “Very Good” rating by BREEAM, recognizing its performance in sustainability and responsible design and operation. Additionally, the project is a candidate for the BREEAM China Awards, reinforcing ESTEVE's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Beyond manufacturing, ESTEVE CDMO's expansion in China will enable the company to offer sophisticated solutions that cater to increasingly complex requirements in drug development and manufacturing, thereby reinforcing its competitive edge in the global market.

Furthermore, this expansion aligns with ESTEVE's comprehensive commitment to producing positive impacts, backed by its B Corp certification and focus on adhering to high standards in social and ecological performance, transparency, and responsible business practices.

The continuous scaling-up of ESTEVE CDMO's manufacturing platform enhances the firm’s expertise, technology, and international reach, thereby ensuring it meets the long-term needs of its pharmaceutical partners. The organization’s commitment to innovation in pharmaceutical development, combined with its extensive experience of over 60 years, positions ESTEVE CDMO as a vital partner for companies looking to navigate the complexities of modern pharmaceutical production.

Headquartered in Barcelona, ESTEVE CDMO operates across a global network of six development and production sites in Spain, the USA, Mexico, and China. This infrastructure allows the organization to provide scalable and resilient solutions tailored to the dynamic requirements of its partners’ projects.
