Unique Railway Experience for Families to Drive Keio 7000 Series Train Debuts

Introduction to the Unique Train Experience

On October 4th, a new family-friendly railway experience will be launched in Hino City, in collaboration with Keio Corporation. This one-of-a-kind event allows participants to operate a Keio 7000 series train and experience the workings of a train station through a unique program. As this is the first railway experience menu offered as part of the Hino hometown tax donation, excitement is building for this innovative event!

Background and Objectives

Hino City and Keio Corporation have previously collaborated on various family-friendly initiatives, such as the 'Keio Asobi no Mori HUGHUG' and 'Keio Rail Land'. Given their positive reception, they have now ventured into new territory by offering a real train-driving experience. The aim is to attract families back to Hino City while providing a memorable day out that highlights the charms of railway operations.

Experience Details

This special program is tailored for children in grades 4 through 9, accompanied by an adult guardian. Over approximately 130 minutes, participants will get hands-on experience operating the train under the guidance of a professional driver, running a distance of about 150 meters within the dedicated course of the Takahatafudo Depot.

Included in the itinerary:
1. Train Operation Experience (130 minutes) - Participants will take turns operating the Keio 7000 series train, rounding the short course five times, while also trying out the announcement system used on actual trains.
2. Depot Pit Tour (20 minutes) - Exclusive access to the usually off-limits inner workings of the Takahatafudo Depot, guided by current train inspectors.
3. Vehicle Inspection Experience (30 minutes) - Attendees will learn about inspection procedures, including acoustic testing and brake system operations under the guidance of inspectors.

Importance of the Initiative

By merging the city's rich train resources with a hands-on educational experience, the initiative is focused on fostering an appreciation for railroads among families. Participants can observe the dedication to safety and efficiency in railway operations first-hand, making the experience not just enjoyable, but educational as well.
