Innovative Solar Power Project between Baycia and i-Grid Solutions
The partnership between Baycia Co., Ltd. and i-Grid Solutions Co., Ltd. marks a significant milestone in sustainable energy management. Together, they have successfully established a system that circulates excess solar power among 22 supermarkets, primarily utilizing the Baycia Maebashi Minami Mall store and its existing locations as a unified energy management facility known as a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
Maximizing Renewable Energy Utilization
Baycia plans to install solar power systems across 46 stores by November 2025, of which five will include battery storage. The innovative 'excess power circulation scheme' is being rolled out in 21 of these stores, strategically leveraging the rooftop spaces for maximum energy output. Recently, the Maebashi Minami Mall has started utilizing new industrial batteries (193.5kWh) alongside its existing solar systems (598.7kW).
This project aims to create a model for supplying excess solar energy from established stores to other locations, starting the supply of 'circulating power' in April 2026. The operational strategy involves charging the batteries with excess power during daylight hours and discharging them during times of lower solar generation, effectively shifting power use to optimize renewable energy consumption.
The combination of this excess power circulation system and energy storage not only enhances Baycia's operational efficiency but is also expected to significantly decrease electricity costs—a win for both the organization and the environment.
Contribution to a Greener Future
As a result of these VPP initiatives, Baycia expects the renewable energy contribution to the Maebashi Minami Mall to reach 40% of its total annual electricity consumption. This innovative approach will help in alleviating grid pressure, enabling quicker responses during peak demand times and supporting regional energy stabilization by integrating battery storage and renewable energy management.
The overall implementation includes:
- - Solar Power Generation: Installed solar capacity of 27,409.8kW over 46 facilities.
- - Battery Storage: A total capacity of 1,161kWh across five facilities.
- - CO2 Emission Reduction: An annual reduction of approximately 11,594 tons of CO2.
