Tokyo Power Technology Supports Athletes at the 2025 Deaflympics
Tokyo Power Technology, a company specializing in the energy sector, is actively promoting diversity and inclusion (D&I) within its corporate culture. Under the philosophy that harnessing varied perspectives and experiences fosters the creation of new value, the company extends its support to athletes with hearing disabilities, particularly prominent in current events such as the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.
One of its standout athletes, Longuchi Tomo, recently participated in the men's 800m semifinal at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, achieving a time of 2 minutes 25.01 seconds. Although he led the race from the start to the mid-point, he unfortunately experienced muscle cramps that slowed his pace, preventing him from advancing to the finals. Nevertheless, he completed the race, demonstrating remarkable perseverance and spirit.
Following the race, Longuchi expressed his feelings candidly: "I was unable to showcase my full potential due to cramping during the competition. However, I have no regrets as my performance reflected a bold approach. I am grateful to have come this far, supported by many individuals over the past eight years. While I am still processing everything about my future, my lifelong mission is to bridge connections between the disabled and non-disabled communities. I will thoughtfully consider what I can and should do to further that cause."
In his heartfelt message to supporters, Longuchi emphasized how their enthusiasm reached him despite the challenges posed by his hearing condition. He noted, "During the competition, I removed my hearing aids, so I could not hear the cheers. Yet, it felt as though the warmth of your encouragement filled me with happiness—this life experience has been extraordinary. Thank you!"
As a total support member and games partner for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, Tokyo Power Technology remains committed to backing not only Longuchi but also other Japanese representatives competing. The company has dedicated itself to fostering an inclusive environment where athletes and all individuals can thrive.
In addition to Longuchi Tomo, Tokyo Power Technology proudly supports several other athletes representing Japan at the Deaflympics:
- - Ryo Takeyama (Men's Hammer Throw - Expected to join in 2026)
- - Midori Kadowaki (Women's 4×100m Relay & Mixed 4×400m Relay)
- - Ryoto Takizawa (Men's Football - Expected to join in 2026)
- - Hiroto Kitaya (Men's Pole Vault)
Tokyo Power Technology continues its significant efforts to advance the cause of D&I. Committed to hiring and empowering women and individuals with disabilities, the company also promotes sports support for disabled individuals, aiming for a symbiotic society. Among the various initiatives taken, they have entered into sponsorship agreements for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, formed partnerships with the Japan Deaf Athletics Federation, and established official partnerships with the Japan Deaf Football Association to actively foster and popularize sports for the disabled.
With a focused team of five deaf athletes, including current members and future joiners scheduled for 2026, Tokyo Power Technology encourages values of diversity and an unwavering commitment to sportsmanship. These athletes not only shine on the field but also play critical roles in raising awareness and promoting understanding of impaired sports within the company and broader community at various events and through effective communication.
