Hakone Tozan Bus Adopts Innovative MUFB Hot Water Cleaning Technology

Introduction

Recently, Hakone Tozan Bus has partnered with Maruyama Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-based company specializing in industrial machinery, and JALUX, a member of the JAL Group. The two firms have successfully introduced the MUFB hot water cleaning system for bus vehicle maintenance. This move aims to enhance the cleaning efficiency of the fleet operating in the Hakone and Odawara areas, particularly in light of the environmental challenges associated with winter conditions.

MUFB Hot Water Cleaning System

The MUFB (Micro Ultra Fine Bubble) hot water cleaning system operates using ultra-fine bubbles, which are smaller than 1 micrometer. These bubbles effectively penetrate and detach dirt from the surfaces, significantly improving cleaning power and reducing cleaning time. Not only does this system promote greater efficiency in water and fuel usage, but it also aligns with environmental sustainability goals, making it a smart choice for modern transportation maintenance.

Particularly in coastal areas where salty sea breezes and de-icing agents like calcium chloride are prevalent, traditional cleaning methods can fail to entirely remove these corrosive substances, leading to deterioration over time. The MUFB system, however, has been shown to reduce the concentration of salts in water by approximately 21% when compared to conventional methods using 80℃ water, and it accelerates the oil cleaning process, reducing required time by two-thirds.

Addressing Bus Companies' Needs

The decision to adopt this innovative technology follows the introduction of MUFB systems to other fields, including restaurants and aquaculture. With the increasing requirements for efficient cleaning solutions, particularly during winter operations when roads in the Hakone area are treated with de-icing agents, the MUFB hot water cleaning system is expected to mitigate issues related to corrosion and wear, thus extending the longevity of the buses.

Hakone Tozan Bus's vehicle maintenance manager, Takahashi, expressed his astonishment at the system's efficacy, noting how quickly and effectively it cleans stubborn grease from hydraulic components. The reduction in cleaning time allows for more frequent maintenance cycles, which is vital for overall operational reliability in the winter months when roads are prone to ice and snow.

Testimonials from Hakone Tozan Bus

Mr. Takahashi, Maintenance Manager: “I was surprised at how well it removes oil stains, especially around the steering components. Previously, the thick grease would just shift around with high-pressure water. The MUFB system cuts down cleaning time drastically — a significant improvement for our operations.”

Mr. Sugiura, Transportation Department: “I believe the system to wash underbody parts is excellent. It's crucial for our operations in snowy conditions.”

Understanding Ultra Fine Bubbles

Ultra fine bubbles consist of water and air, making them environmentally friendly and applicable across various sectors. Defined as bubbles smaller than 100 micrometers, ultra-fine bubbles are even smaller than 1 micrometer, making them virtually invisible. Their applications range from enhancing cleaning efficacy, promoting plant growth, improving water quality, and more across industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing.
