Piramal Pharma Solutions Partners with Botanix for Drug Development Support

Piramal Pharma Solutions Collaborates with Botanix for Sofdra Drug Development

Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a premier global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), has recently announced a strategic partnership with Botanix SB Inc., a subsidiary of Botanix Pharmaceuticals Limited. This collaboration is set to enhance the development and commercial supply of Sofdra®, which is a groundbreaking treatment for primary axillary hyperhidrosis and is the first new chemical entity to receive FDA approval for this condition.

The partnership focuses on leveraging Piramal’s state-of-the-art North American production facilities to ensure consistent and reliable patient access to Sofdra. Located in Riverview, Michigan, PPS will initiate development and validation services for the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), sofpironium bromide, which is foundational for Sofdra. Once regulatory approval is secured at the Riverview site, the plan includes validating the manufacturing process at PPS's Aurora facility in Canada, thereby providing a dual-site strategy to Botanix. This dual sourcing principle strengthens the supply chain and enhances flexibility.

Enhancing Supply Chain Flexibility

By utilizing two separate facilities for the production of Sofdra, Botanix gains significant advantages. This strategic approach offers redundancy, ensuring robust supply chain continuity while allowing for seamless adaptation amid geopolitical uncertainties. In practice, this means if any disruptions occur at one site, PPS can swiftly shift production to the other, ensuring uninterrupted availability for patients reliant on this innovative treatment.

Piramal’s CEO, Peter DeYoung, emphasized that this partnership underscores their commitment to creating customized and resilient solutions for clients such as Botanix. He stated, “Our North American manufacturing facilities have the expertise and advanced technology needed to mitigate the risks associated with Sofdra’s supply chain and to guarantee that this revolutionary therapy reaches the patients who need it most.”

Commitment to Patient Well-Being

Piramal Pharma Solutions is not merely focusing on production; they are dedicated to maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency throughout the drug supply cycle. This collaboration aims to ensure that the treatment is not only effective but also accessible to those suffering from the socially challenging condition of hyperhidrosis. The collaborative approach fosters innovation while enhancing patient outcomes and reinforcing the patient-centered commitment of Piramal Pharma Solutions.

As both companies aim to establish a pathway for future sourcing of sofpironium bromide, they remain agile to meet increasing demands, should additional capacity be required. This proactive initiative reflects a deep commitment to continual improvement in the lives of patients affected by primary axillary hyperhidrosis, demonstrating the company's focus on patient-centered solutions.
