PFL Africa Set for Grand Launch with Exciting Event in Cape Town

PFL Africa's Historic Debut in Cape Town

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is set to make a significant mark in the sports world as it launches PFL Africa, the organization's third international league. This historic event will take place on July 26 at the GrandWest Arena in Cape Town, South Africa. PFL Africa aims to bring mixed martial arts (MMA) to the forefront of African sports, providing a platform for local talents to compete at an elite level.

The event will kick off the 2025 PFL Africa Tournament, which will consist of four notable events across the continent. Focusing initially on the Heavyweight and Bantamweight divisions, the inaugural tournament features an eight-man bracket format, allowing fighters to progress through semifinals and finals as they vie for championship titles.

Leading the charge for PFL Africa is MMA icon Francis Ngannou, who will serve as Chairman. Ngannou's involvement signifies a commitment to nurturing the next generation of African champions and elevating the MMA scene within the continent. Alongside Ngannou, Helios Sports & Entertainment Group has partnered as a key investor, known for its impactful ventures, including NBA Africa.

The launch event includes thrilling fight cards from both PFL Africa and the PFL Champions Series, showcasing global talent on a local stage. Headlining the night will be an intriguing title bout featuring undefeated Middleweight Champion Johnny Eblen defending his title against Costello van Steenis. The co-main event will spotlight Dakota Ditcheva, another undefeated champion, taking on Hawaii's Sumiko Inaba.

In addition to the world-class fights, PFL Africa is dedicated to providing expanded access for fans. Canal+ has been named the official broadcaster across sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring that audiences can enjoy the events live in French. Furthermore, SuperSport is confirmed as the distribution partner for the region, enhancing visibility and accessibility.

To cater to the evolving needs of fans, PFL has introduced the Content For Mobile (CFM) platform, which will allow for mobile-first content delivery, making fight viewing easier and more affordable. This strategic move aims to reach over 90% of African households, ensuring widespread coverage of PFL events.
