Introduction of SmartEVer
In an important move towards enhancing electric vehicle operation and energy management, i-Grid Solutions, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has announced a partnership with Isuzu Motors, based in Yokohama, Kanagawa. This collaboration has led to the development of SmartEVer, a cutting-edge energy management service for electric delivery vehicles (EVs), set to launch in December 2023. SmartEVer seamlessly integrates operational planning for delivery EVs with sophisticated energy management functionalities.
Background of the Service Launch
Since October 2024, i-Grid and Isuzu have been engaged in practical testing aimed at commercializing SmartEVer. This initiative involves leveraging Isuzu's commercial vehicle information platform, GATEX, which provides real-time tracking and management of commercial vehicle operation and performance. The service also utilizes i-Grid’s energy management platform, the R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform®, to create charging plans based on actual and projected energy usage at facilities. By effectively linking these two technological systems, SmartEVer enables the formulation of charging schedules that consider both delivery operations and facility energy demand. Field tests were conducted using Isuzu’s Elf EV in real operational settings to validate the system's effectiveness in managing energy resources dynamically.
Overview of the Service
1.
EV Truck Operational Support
The introduction of the Elf EV, a small battery electric vehicle (BEV) truck, provides optimized operational management for route sales activities. Through GATEX, users can monitor vehicle performance and operation plans in real-time, ensuring efficient delivery.
2.
Integrated Facility Energy Management
By collaborating with i-Grid’s R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform®, the service makes use of real and anticipated data on facility energy use. This integration mitigates power peaks caused by EV charging, preventing increases in basic electricity charges, thereby enhancing cost-effectiveness.
3.
Optimized Charging Plans and Control
Automatic generation of charging schedules based on delivery plans and facility energy demand allows for effective energy management. Remote control capabilities facilitate adjustments to charging timing, enabling peak load shifts.
Through these innovative processes, i-Grid Solutions aims to realize comprehensive and efficient management of EV charging and facility energy management. As the push towards electrification in transportation becomes increasingly critical, the SmartEVer system promises to support smooth operations while striving to achieve carbon neutrality objectives.
Future Goals
i-Grid is committed to maximizing the utilization of renewable energy sources through an expanding network of decentralized solar power facilities across Japan. By enhancing the rate of renewable energy usage, the company seeks to promote the adoption of EVs and contribute to regional decarbonization efforts.
About i-Grid Solutions
