Experience the Richness of Japanese Traditional Arts through a Unique Tour
Japan, known for its deep-rooted traditions and vibrant cultural heritage, is set to unveil a remarkable opportunity for foreign visitors. Starting from July 30th, HIS (H.I.S. Co., Ltd.), in collaboration with the Japan Arts Council, will introduce a deluxe tour that combines hands-on experiences in Japanese dance or music with the viewing of kabuki performances at the New National Theatre.
The National Theatre has long served as a hub for preserving and promoting Japan's traditional arts including kabuki, bunraku, dance, and gagaku. However, due to the aging of the facility and the need for more accessibility, a significant redevelopment is scheduled, resulting in its closure by the end of October 2023.
In response to this, HIS has entered into a partnership with the Japan Arts Council to effectively utilize the space prior to the reopening of the National Theatre in July 2024. This initiative follows a successful domestic bus tour launched in January 2025, which provided unique behind-the-scenes access to the National Theatre and included the experience of watching a kabuki performance that was previously closed to the public.
The newly launched tour aims to deepen participants' understanding of Japan's traditional arts through direct interaction with practicing artists and participation in cultural workshops. Attendees will engage in hands-on workshops of either Japanese dance or music, where they can immerse themselves in the intricate body movements and soundscapes of Japan's rich traditions. Following this experience, participants will head to the New National Theatre to watch a kabuki performance titled "Kanadehon Chushingura," offering a rare opportunity to witness the essence of a revered traditional art form up close.
