Shibuya's Wellness Initiative Shines
In a remarkable achievement for the Shibuya community, the initiative known as 'Our Wellness Action' (WWA), spearheaded by the Shibuya Future Design Association and led by its executive director, Hideki Koizumi, has proudly received the 'Incredible Healthy Longevity Award 2025' from the publisher Shufu no Tomosha and its magazine 'Kenko'. This prestigious award recognizes projects that aim to promote well-being for all individuals, regardless of gender or age, fostering environments where everyone can be mindful of their physical and mental health.
WWA is dedicated to building a society where each person is equipped to understand their own well-being and act positively towards it. Their efforts are part of a broader initiative to create a supportive community for leaders and advocates, forming connections with businesses and organizations to collectively visualize and address health challenges faced by urban residents. The collaboration across government, academia, and civil society has received significant recognition, showcasing how communities can come together to initiate positive behavioral changes through dialogue.
The Award's Significance
The 'Incredible Healthy Longevity Award' was established in 2025 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 'Kenko' magazine published by Shufu no Tomosha. The purpose of this award is to highlight innovative entities—be they businesses, local governments, or non-profit organizations—that are making strides in enhancing health spans in the era of 100-year lives. It comprises three categories: the Business Sector, the Local Government/NPO Sector, and the Individual Sector, which rewards individuals who contribute to extended health spans.
This year, a total of 14 organizations and 2 individuals have been selected for commendation based on comprehensive evaluations that included reader surveys, votes, and insights from medical professionals. The awards ceremony is set for March 1st, 2025, marking a landmark moment for those dedicated to health longevity.
WWA's Ongoing Initiatives
'Our Wellness Action' officially began in March 2022, following a talk session at the 'Social Innovation Week' in 2021. It aims to advocate for a societal environment where individuals face their health and bodies while connecting meaningfully with others and prioritizing their well-being. Their ongoing activities include information dissemination, awareness campaigns, community building, and research initiatives focused on solving health-related challenges.
Plans to designate Mother’s Day as a 'Day to Reflect on Mothers’ Health' have also garnered considerable public support, illustrating WWA's commitment to collaborating with local communities and businesses to ensure continuous engagement on health topics.
