IREX Welcomes Aleksander Dardeli as New President and CEO
The IREX Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of
Aleksander (Aleks) Dardeli as its President and CEO, effective September 1, 2025. With a rich history at IREX and a strong background in international development, Dardeli is set to steer the organization into a new era of partnership and growth.
A Vision for the Future
Dardeli returns to IREX with a bold vision, ready to innovate and navigate the evolving landscape of international development. His previous tenure as Executive Vice President of IREX saw significant advancements, including expanding the organization's global presence and innovating management practices. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in the acquisition of
Development Gateway, aligning with IREX's mission of facilitating impactful global change.
Before this new role, Dardeli served as Chief Operating Officer at
Save the Children, where he was responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of transformative initiatives aimed at improving organizational outcomes. His diverse experiences and strategic mindset are expected to enhance IREX's mission of cultivating leaders and empowering communities worldwide.
David A. Gross, Chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm in welcoming Dardeli back, stating, "His experience and perspective are well suited to guide the organization through a changing landscape. We are confident in his ability to lead IREX forward."
Renewed Enthusiasm
The Interim CEO, Kate Thompson, noted that Dardeli's return brings renewed energy to the organization, which boasts strong programs and an exceptionally talented team. This sentiment highlights the anticipation surrounding Dardeli's leadership and the expected positive momentum for IREX.
With over
25 years of experience in international development, Dardeli has held senior roles across several reputable organizations. His portfolio includes positions at
IBI International,
DynCorp International/Casals, the
East-West Management Institute, and the
International Development Law Organization. His focus has primarily been on enhancing education and leadership while strengthening public institutions and the private sector in various contexts, including post-conflict environments like Kosovo.
Dardeli's academic qualifications are equally impressive; he is a former
Fulbright Scholar and has graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tirana. Additionally, he holds a master's degree from
Columbia University and a Juris Doctor from the
Catholic University of America.
