Exciting Tractor Tug-of-War Event Engages Community at Aichi Farm
On May 18, 2025, a thrilling tractor tug-of-war event took place at Aichi Farm, organized by the Open House Group's Nagoya branch. This initiative, part of the 'BOUNCE PARK in Aichi Farm Vol. 6' event, aimed to educate children about the journey of sweet potatoes from planting to harvest, and eventually to their dining tables.
Collaborating with Aichi Farm, the Open House Group established a unique 'Open House Field' within the farm’s flower garden, dedicating a space for planting sweet potato seedlings. Event participants, limited to 50 families, had the opportunity to plant these seedlings, thereby gaining hands-on experience in agriculture. The children were not only planting but also learned about the process involved in bringing their food from farm to home.
Later in the event, participants engaged in a fun and competitive tractor tug-of-war. This was designed as a simulation for the upcoming sweet potato harvesting scheduled for October. Families shared their excitement, with comments highlighting the joy of teamwork, such as, “I couldn’t do it alone, but together we succeeded!” and “Pulling it together was such a thrill!” It was clear that the event brought immense satisfaction to everyone involved and fostered a sense of community spirit.
A Message from Aichi Farm’s Public Relations
The tractors used in the tug-of-war were robust machines designed to plow large fields. With enthusiastic cheers from participants, the tractors surprisingly moved during the event, showcasing the power of collaboration. The sweet potato varieties planted by the families were the 'Kurenai Haruka', a relatively new type cultivated in Kyushu, known for its sticky texture and high sugar content, perfect for making sweet potato treats. While everyone will need to wait a bit for the harvest, rest assured the seedlings will be nurtured diligently until they are ready.
