Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong Shares Lunar New Year Greetings to Global Friends

Celebrating Lunar New Year: A Message from Governor Wang Weizhong

As the festivities of the Chinese Lunar New Year approach, the Governor of Guangdong Province, Wang Weizhong, took a moment to send warm greetings not only to the overseas Chinese community but also to friends around the world on January 28, 2025. This momentous occasion serves as both a celebration of tradition and an opportunity to reflect on the province's significant achievements over the past year.

In his heartfelt address, Governor Wang highlighted that in 2024, Guangdong's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) soared to an impressive 14 trillion yuan, maintaining its status as the leading province in China for 36 consecutive years. Foreign trade also saw substantial growth, with imports and exports exceeding 9 trillion yuan, which resulted in Guangdong goods enjoying a robust international market presence.

Wang emphasized that the province's initiative, the "High-Quality Development Project for Counties, Towns, and Villages," invigorated the local economies, fostering lively industrial clusters and propelling urbanization initiatives.

A noteworthy development celebrated during his message was the fifth anniversary of the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Governor Wang pointed out various favorable policies that were introduced during this period, which included tiered management in key areas and relaxed market access measures. These initiatives have significantly eased cross-border mobility, enhancing connectivity within the region through major links such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Major events in 2024, including the famed Canton Fair and the China Airshow, attracted numerous businesses, leading to significant investments and a record three million businesses established in Guangdong. According to the Governor, investors continue to express high confidence in the province, as it remains a prime destination for domestic and international investments.

Moreover, 2024 marked remarkable advancements in Guangdong's innovation capabilities. With eight consecutive national championships, the province showcased its technological prowess, including the launch of the "Meng Xiang" ocean drilling vessel and its very own rockets. These achievements highlight Guangdong's preeminent position in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence and commercial aerospace, while traditional industries continue to modernize, enhancing the overall competitiveness of the province's manufacturing sector.

In focusing on the well-being of its residents, Guangdong has initiated programs aimed at facilitating employment opportunities closer to home and enhancing access to quality childcare and elderly care services. The establishment of cultural landmarks such as the Baietan GBA Art Center has also fostered public engagement and environmental awareness, resulting in improved air and water quality across the province.

Looking ahead, Governor Wang expressed optimism for 2025, pledging that the province will vigorously promote economic growth, advance reforms, and continue improving development efforts aligned with the goals of the "14th Five-Year Plan." He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and economic ties with countries around the globe.

Finally, Wang looks forward to the National Games set to be hosted simultaneously in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in November 2025. This landmark event will mark the first comprehensive sports gathering among the three regions of the Greater Bay Area, showcasing a vibrant “Passionate National Games, Vibrant Greater Bay Area” spirit alongside global friends.
