Handl Health Raises $14 Million Series A to Innovate Healthcare Access and Affordability
Handl Health Secures Significant Funding to Reshape U.S. Healthcare
Handl Health, a pioneering technology platform focused on employer-sponsored health insurance, has recently secured an impressive $14.2 million in Series A funding. The objective of this funding is to instigate significant changes in the landscape of healthcare accessibility and affordability in the United States.
The investment round was spearheaded by Arthur Ventures, along with participation from Syndra Capital Partners and other strategic investors. Existing investors, such as Mucker Capital, Riverfront Ventures, Digital Health Venture Partners (DHVP), and Boutique Venture Partners, also amplified their financial commitments. This infusion of capital is intended to escalate Handl Health's platform enhancements, equipping the company to deliver deeper analytics and improve benefit designs that prioritize patient care.
Approximately 60% of Americans under retirement age rely on employer-sponsored health insurance plans, but the costs associated with these plans have been escalating at an alarming rate. Accessibility issues have also been noted as a growing concern. Handl Health aims to tackle these issues by facilitating insurance brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators who play pivotal roles in the decision-making processes regarding employer-sponsored health plans.
Over the past two years, Handl has collaborated with various employers, fine-tuning their network strategies and benefits designs. Their efforts have reportedly unearthed around $113 million in savings amid nearly $1 billion in total healthcare expenditures. Furthermore, their distinctive health plans have led to an average reduction of 22% in consumer costs for shoppable medical services.
Ahmed Marmoush, co-founder and CEO of Handl Health, commented, "We are witnessing a transformative shift in how employers approach healthcare procurement. The essential components for superior health plans are already present within the ecosystem; however, what has been lacking is an integrated platform that ties insights to actionable steps. Our platform empowers users to design healthcare plans that optimize care pathways while delivering a seamless member experience and continuous plan improvements based on actual performance data."
The new Series A funding will aid in expanding Handl's platform, enabling the company to provide more sophisticated plan analyses. This is anticipated to result in enhanced benefit designs, predictable pricing, and improved healthcare quality for users. Nick Goblisch, VP of Arthur Ventures, highlighted the impact of technology, stating, "The convergence of AI and price transparency is revolutionizing health plan design and management. We are excited to collaborate with Handl Health, leading the way for cutting-edge network analytics and alternative health plan constructions.”
With the facilitation of Handl's platform, insurance brokers, carriers, and other stakeholders can convert traditional and inflexible insurance models into dynamic and customizable health plans focused on patient needs.
Ria Shah, Handl's co-founder and chief product officer, emphasized the complexity of modern healthcare plans. "Crafting a cost-effective health plan requires a nuanced understanding of provider performance in relation to cost and quality. Users must model various configurations and analyze actual care pathway costs. We provide the necessary infrastructure to navigate these complexities effectively."
Marmoush concluded, "We are shaping the future of U.S. healthcare by eliminating generic, mass-market health plans. Patients are demanding better options, and employers are taking action. It's time that health insurance becomes something patients appreciate rather than dread."
