Overview

From November 1 to November 8, 2025, Japan will host "Lighthouse and Sea Week," a week-long celebration dedicated to the nation’s rich maritime heritage and the crucial role lighthouses play in ensuring safe navigation. This annual event, initiated by the Nippon Foundation and the Japan Coast Guard in 2020, aims to engage the public and promote a new appreciation for our coastline through a series of dynamic events across the country.

Mission and Activities

The theme for this year’s event is "A Nice Breeze is Blowing. Lighthouse Time," inviting everyone to enjoy varied experiences that highlight the beauty and significance of lighthouses.

Attendees can look forward to:
  • - Special access to previously closed lighthouses
  • - Cultural festivals that emphasize the relationship between lighthouses and coastal areas
  • - Seminars, exhibitions, and panel discussions to delve into the historical and geographical importance of these structures

In addition, participants will receive exclusive commemorative items such as the original "Lighthouse and Sea Week 2025" sticker that includes a quiz and a QR code to access an audio drama about historical lighthouses.
