Discover Unique Delicacies from Nagasaki and Saga at Kokubunji Marui

Unique Flavors Gathered: The Yokamon Exhibition

Kokubunji Marui is making waves with its first-ever 'Yokamon Busan Exhibition,' showcasing the exceptional products from Nagasaki and Saga Prefecture. Running until October 14, visitors are invited to explore a delightful assortment of 140 items that highlight the bounty of these two picturesque regions in Japan. This exhibition is a collaboration between the local commerce and industry associations from both prefectures.

A Taste of Nagasaki

Among the highlights from Nagasaki is the premium Wasanbon Castella from Nagasaki Castella Touan, priced at 1,188 yen. This cake uses high-quality Wasanbon sugar, renowned for its delicate flavor. It features the signature 'bottom zarame sugar' and special 'Wasanbon sugar,' combined with the farm-raised 'Shin Taiyo Eggs,' resulting in a richer taste compared to traditional castella. This refined cake is the perfect choice for a special treat.

Another indulgence to try is the RiriKana Sweets' Dorayaki (red bean paste, 280 yen). The craftsmanship behind its fluffy texture is a result of using a blend of rice flour, which creates a delightful mochi-like skin filled with just the right amount of sweet red bean paste. One bite guarantees a smile!

For seafood lovers, Kizuka's Marude Ikasashi (yuzu-flavored squid, 1,500 yen) should not be missed. Fresh Aori squid caught in Nagasaki's Kujukushima is expertly prepared by fishermen, paired with natural yuzu peel and yuzu pepper for a deliciously unique flavor. The squid is vacuum-packed and quickly frozen to retain its freshness and flavor.

Nagasaki also offers Tsushima Ton-Chan Sauce from Tsushima Kyubei Shoten, a sweet and savory marinade for pork that has a long-standing history in the region, and was awarded a silver medal at the B-1 Grand Prix food festival.

Savoring Saga

On the Saga side, try the Ureshino Yakuzen Tea by Fukuda Tea Garden, available for 300 yen. This tea combines the overall goodness of traditional Ureshino tea with seasonal herbal ingredients, promoting health and well-being while offering a beautiful aroma and taste.

Saga's offerings include Rencon Chips (lotus root chips) produced by Saga Frozen Foods, capturing the natural flavor of lotus roots fried in canola oil for a crunchy and healthy snack.

For a touch of elegance, consider the traditional Chako-ro (tea aroma burner) by Shin Nihon Seito, perfect for releasing the soothing fragrance of tea throughout your home.
