Entergy's Board Unveils New Leadership Amid Transition in Operations

Entergy's New Leadership: A Vision for the Future

In a significant development within Entergy Corporation, the board of directors has confirmed the retirement of the long-serving Chief Operating Officer (COO), Pete Norgeot, effective May 1, 2025. This anticipated transition has sparked interest in the company's future direction, as Entergy welcomes new leadership to guide its operations and nuclear sectors.

Drew Marsh, Entergy's Chair and CEO, expressed profound gratitude for Norgeot's contributions, highlighting his nearly four-decade career that has not only powered the business but also nurtured the careers of numerous employees. Marsh remarked, “Pete's leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication have left a lasting impact on our business and our industry.” Recognizing the importance of a seamless transition, Marsh has announced the appointment of Kimberly Cook-Nelson, who is currently the executive vice president and chief nuclear officer, to take over the COO responsibilities.

Cook-Nelson, aged 53, has been instrumental in overseeing Entergy's four nuclear power plants and five reactors across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi since 2022. Her journey at Entergy began in 1996 as a design engineer, and her career has since been marked by numerous leadership roles that showcase her engineering acumen and strategic business insight. She has proven herself as a visionary leader with a dedicated focus on safety and operational excellence in the nuclear industry. Notably, she completed a prestigious rotational assignment at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, where she honed her skills as an organizational effectiveness team leader.

In her new role as COO, Cook-Nelson will be tasked with navigating Entergy’s operations into its next phase, a challenge she is well-prepared for, given her extensive background in both nuclear and commercial operations. Marsh spoke highly of her qualifications, stating that her blend of communications, project management skills, and deep understanding of the industry will serve Entergy well.

Following Cook-Nelson's elevation to COO, John Dinelli, who has served as Entergy's Chief Operating Officer for its Nuclear Business since 2021, will ascend to the position of executive vice president and chief nuclear officer. Dinelli’s tenure at Entergy spans back to 1991 when he began as an intern at the Indian Point Energy Center. His vast experience includes pivotal roles in operations and strategic oversight of Entergy’s nuclear facilities, underscoring his comprehensive understanding of plant operations and organizational effectiveness.

The leadership changes at Entergy are strategic moves aimed at reinforcing the company's commitment to operational excellence and reliability, particularly as it continues to innovate within the energy sector. As Entergy embarks on this new chapter, the board and executive team are focused on driving growth and enhancing the reliability of energy service, all while ensuring the company remains a leader in sustainability and corporate citizenship.

In summary, as Entergy transitions into this new leadership era, the company positions itself for continued progress in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. With Kimberly Cook-Nelson and John Dinelli stepping into their new roles, Entergy is not only honoring its past but also embracing a forward-looking approach that aligns with its mission to provide safe, reliable, and affordable energy to its customers. The formal changes will take effect on May 1, 2025, paving the way for a promising future under a refreshed leadership team.
