PMI U.S. Contributes $260,000 to Support Military Families' Mental Health and Wellness Initiatives

In a significant move to support military families, Philip Morris International's U.S. division (PMI U.S.) has announced a substantial contribution of $260,000 coinciding with Military Appreciation Month. This initiative aims to enhance access to mental health support, peer assistance, and wellness resources for thousands of military caregivers, grieving families, and spouses throughout the country. The donation reflects PMI U.S.'s commitment to sustained philanthropy through long-term partnerships with reputable military support organizations, including the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), and the Veteran Spouse Network.

Military Appreciation Month, which honors both Military Caregiver Month in May and Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 8, serves as a perfect backdrop for this funding announcement. Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at PMI U.S., articulated the essential role of caregivers and spouses as the backbone of the military community, stating that their welfare should not be sidelined. She emphasized that these organizations do much more than offer services; they foster community, providing critical support and connections for those individuals who have sacrificed immensely for their country.

This newest funding will enhance the ongoing support for programs aimed at military families at various stages of their journey, including those who are actively providing care or coping with loss. The breakdown of the contributions is as follows:

  • - $100,000 to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, bringing the total support to $300,000 since 2024. This funding empowers over 8,000 caregivers in more than 200 Hidden Heroes Cities to access peer support and navigation resources. Furthermore, it aids the Dole Caregiver Fellows program, which advocates on behalf of caregivers nationwide.

  • - $100,000 to TAPS, increasing total contributions to $250,000 since 2025. This funding will help expand TAPS's comprehensive services for adults mourning the loss of a service member or veteran. These services encompass a 24/7 National Military Survivor Helpline, a peer support network, and programming available both virtually and in-person.

  • - $60,000 to the Veteran Spouse Network, raising total donations to $260,000 since 2024. This support facilitates the national expansion of services aimed at assisting military spouses as they transition into civilian life and also provides free, essential suicide prevention training to hundreds within the military community.

Since 2022, PMI U.S. has committed over $7 million to various military-focused initiatives, covering areas such as veterans' healthcare, housing assistance, legal support, and overall family wellness. This ongoing commitment highlights PMI U.S.'s recognition of the complexities faced by military families and the necessity of providing comprehensive, accessible resources and support systems.

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation stands as a vital advocate for America’s military caregivers, working to empower and honor those who care for wounded, ill, or injured service members and veterans. Moreover, the TAPS organization occupies a leading role nationally, providing care and survivor support services for families of fallen military heroes. Finally, the Veteran Spouse Network is dedicated to facilitating peer support, resources, and training for military and veteran spouses, ensuring they receive both the acknowledgment and support they need.

PMI's leadership in these contributions underscores the critical nature of sustained support and the urgency of investing in the health and stability of our military families. This Corporate Social Responsibility model is imperative for fostering community wellbeing and resilience, ensuring that those who serve and their families are not forgotten. With continued engagement and advocacy, PMI U.S. sets a commendable example for corporate philanthropy, merging business interests with social impact to elevate the lives of those who sacrifice for the nation.
