Asieris Pharmaceuticals Partners with Theramex for CEVIRA® to Advance Non-Surgical Treatment in Europe
In a significant move for women's health, Asieris Pharmaceuticals has formed an exclusive licensing agreement with Theramex for their innovative photodynamic therapy product CEVIRA® (APL-1702). This agreement will cover European countries as well as Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey, while Asieris retains rights for the rest of the globe. The deal, which could total more than $250 million, includes an upfront payment of $15 million, alongside stipulations for regulatory and commercial milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties.
Background of CEVIRA®
CEVIRA® is a groundbreaking combination of drug and device aimed at offering a non-surgical option for treating cervical precancerous lesions stemming from HPV infections. With a focus on cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, the product is noted for its potential to be administered in an office setting by healthcare professionals, making it a well-suited alternative for women who might otherwise require surgical procedures. This approach not only preserves cervical tissues but also addresses a significant unmet medical need for non-surgical treatments around the world.
Financial Terms
The licensing agreement with Theramex is contingent on several essential conditions, including the signing of a supply agreement, successful audits at CEVIRA® manufacturing sites, and ensuring alignment with upstream licensing agreements. Additionally, there will be clarification needed regarding the product's clinical value assessment with the European Commission. The deal reflects a robust financial commitment, marking it as a pivotal partnership in the biopharmaceutical industry.
This arrangement follows Asieris' recent milestones, including the approval of CEVIRA® by China's National Medical Products Administration in March 2026 as the first non-invasive therapy for cervical precancerous lesions. This noteworthy achievement serves as a launching pad for global commercialization efforts and enhances the drug's credibility in markets beyond Asia.
