BlackLine Welcomes Greg Hughes to the Board of Directors
On July 28, 2025, BlackLine, Inc. (Nasdaq: BL), well-known for being a visionary platform for financial operations tailored for the Office of the CFO, announced the exciting appointment of Greg Hughes to its Board of Directors, effective July 25, 2025. This strategic addition is aimed at bolstering BlackLine's expertise in driving enterprise software solutions and facilitating strategic growth within the industry.
Greg Hughes, a seasoned executive in enterprise software, possesses decades of experience driving transformative strategies at scale. His most recent role was as CEO of Veritas Technologies, a leading entity in data protection and other essential software services. During his tenure at Veritas, Hughes spearheaded a revival of Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) growth, successfully shifted the business to a subscription-based pricing model, and established a thriving cloud service. Hughes orchestrated a pivotal merger between Veritas' data protection sector and Cohesity, an AI-driven data security and management organization. He now continues his involvement with the merged entity as a board member.
Hughes' deep industry insights are complemented by his significant public board experience, previously serving on the board of LogMeIn, a publicly traded collaboration software firm, from 2011 to 2017. His remarkable track record and comprehensive understanding of the enterprise technology landscape ideally position him to contribute to BlackLine's objectives.
Hughes' induction comes shortly after the appointment of Sam Balaji, the former CEO of Deloitte Consulting, to the BlackLine board in June 2025. Together, Hughes and Balaji represent a wealth of executive management experience, spanning vital sectors such as enterprise software, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. This new leadership infusion strengthens BlackLine's board, which is already comprised of distinguished professionals who have been instrumental in shaping the company's growth trajectory and innovation strategies.
Owen Ryan, Co-CEO and Chairman of BlackLine, expressed enthusiasm about Hughes' addition, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Greg to BlackLine's Board of Directors. With his and Sam's collective expertise, we are not only enhancing our board's strength but also enriching our capacity for future strategic initiatives in enterprise technology and global operations. Their leadership is a tremendous asset as we continue to advance our goals and deliver value to our clients and shareholders."
Therese Tucker, Co-CEO and the founder of BlackLine, added her perspective on Hughes' capabilities, mentioning, "Greg's history of scaling businesses and guiding firms through critical transitions makes him an ideal match for our board. He recognizes the intricacies involved in creating and nurturing innovative platforms, and we are excited about his contributions as we push the envelope in innovations tailored for the Office of the CFO."
In his own words, Greg Hughes reflected on his appointment: "BlackLine has constructed a unique platform with vast potential ahead. I feel privileged to join the board and am eager to collaborate with fellow members and the leadership team to propel the company's strategies while maintaining our upward momentum as a leader in financial operations."
