Tokyo's Call for Organizations Supporting a Cohesive Society

Tokyo is committed to building a cohesive society where people with and without disabilities can live together harmoniously. To achieve this vision, the city is actively seeking businesses and organizations that engage in initiatives promoting disability awareness and support. As part of this effort, Tokyo has registered 104 organizations as “Companies and Groups Supporting the Concept of a Cohesive Society” in the 2022 fiscal year.

Invitation for Applications for 2023

a New application cycle is now open for the first round of fiscal year 2023, starting from July 16 to September 15, 2023. The city encourages interested parties to come forward and participate in this vital initiative aimed at fostering understanding and support for individuals with disabilities.

Eligibility to Apply

Eligible applicants include businesses and organizations with operations located within Tokyo. This is an opportunity for local entities to showcase their commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the community.

Application Process

Review and Registration

The applications will undergo a thorough review process to ensure they meet the predefined eligibility criteria. Upon successful evaluation, organizations will be registered, and their names will be publicly announced as supporters of the cohesive society concept.

Public Announcement of Registered Entities

Registered organizations will have their names displayed on the Tokyo Welfare Bureau's website, as well as on the specialized site “Heart City Tokyo.” This public acknowledgment helps raise awareness about the organizations’ efforts and initiatives in supporting inclusivity.

Examples of Initiatives

Organizations are encouraged to implement various initiatives that promote diversity and accessibility. Examples include:

• - Conducting diversity training
• - Installing information accessibility devices and communication support tools
• - Organizing parasports experiences
• - Promoting the usage of help marks to raise awareness
• - Creating designated priority spaces in stadiums
• - Hosting events aimed at understanding disabilities

Symbol of Commitment

Registered businesses and organizations will receive a distinctive symbol sticker that represents their commitment to inclusivity. This sticker can be displayed in their offices or stores, especially in priority spaces, to show their support for the cause.
