Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Opens Innovation Oasis and AgriTech Academy in Al Ain

Inauguration of Innovation Oasis and Advance AgriTech Academy

On April 24, 2025, Al Ain witnessed a significant advancement in agricultural technology as His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the region, presided over the opening of Silal's Innovation Oasis (iO). This state-of-the-art research and development facility focuses on agricultural technology, seeking to enhance sustainable farming practices and bolster the UAE's food security in harmony with the National Food Security Strategy 2051.

Vision for Sustainable Agricultural Practices

The Innovation Oasis is designed to support national initiatives aimed at promoting agricultural sustainability. The facility is not only focused on research but also on developing practical solutions that align with the growing global demand for food, especially in regions like the UAE, where arid conditions present unique challenges to conventional farming. Sheikh Hazza emphasized that investing in agritech research is crucial for advancing sustainable local production, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to innovate while ensuring a robust food supply chain.

Cultivating Future Leaders at Advance AgriTech Academy

The inauguration ceremony also unveiled the Advance AgriTech Academy, a crucial establishment aimed at nurturing the next generation of agricultural technology leaders in the UAE. This academy will offer specialized training programs in collaboration with global research institutions, focusing on practical skills to empower Emirati youth. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge necessary to drive innovation within the agricultural sector, positioning them as influential figures capable of tackling future food security challenges.

Collaboration with UAE University

Further to promote collaboration in agricultural research and innovation, a cooperation agreement was signed between Silal and the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). As part of this partnership, five scholarships will be awarded to students from the College of Agriculture, targeting those who aspire to contribute to sustainability and food security efforts.

Infrastructure and Technological Focus

The Innovation Oasis spans over 300,000 square meters and represents a dynamic ecosystem intended to foster collaboration among researchers, industry professionals, startups, and academia. With advanced laboratories, growth chambers, and experimental facilities, the iO serves as an incubator for agri-tech innovations. Researchers will focus on developing climate-resilient farming techniques, water-food-energy solutions, IoT-enabled precision agriculture, and saltwater-resistant crops. The facility’s capability in exploring AI-driven food systems through machine learning and robotics will aim to streamline agricultural management and reduce food wastage through efficiency improvements in supply chains.

Commitment to National Goals

During the inauguration, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed reiterated the importance of addressing regional and global food security challenges. He was accompanied by key figures, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, various members of the UAEU, and prominent leaders from Silal. Salmeen Obaid Al Ameri, the CEO of Silal, expressed that the Innovation Oasis is poised to redefine the future of food systems in the UAE. He emphasized that by collaborating with strategic partners and focusing on research, they are not only advancing local agricultural practices but also ensuring that the UAE remains at the forefront of global agritech solutions.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the Innovation Oasis and Advance AgriTech Academy signifies the UAE's unwavering commitment to innovation in food production and agricultural sustainability, creating a pathway that nurtures talent and promotes technological advancement for future generations.
