WaterEquity Welcomes Aleem Remtula as New Head of Private Equity and Infrastructure Investments
WaterEquity has made a significant move in strengthening its leadership by appointing Aleem Remtula as the Head of Private Equity and Infrastructure Investments. This strategic appointment aims to bolster their mission of addressing the global water and sanitation crisis, focusing on investments that enhance access to clean water and climate resilience in emerging markets.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in investment management, particularly in emerging and frontier markets, Remtula is poised to lead WaterEquity’s initiatives effectively. He has managed investments exceeding $140 million across several sectors, including financial inclusion, gender equity, water and sanitation, healthcare, and education. His diverse background showcases a strong commitment to impactful investment strategies that align closely with WaterEquity's goals.
Before joining WaterEquity, Remtula held key positions at Developing World Markets, where he was a partner and co-head of private equity, facilitating growth equity investments in financial institutions worldwide. His past roles also include significant contributions at notable impact investment firms such as the New York City Investment Fund, Bridges Fund Management, and Living Cities. Furthermore, his extensive career commenced at JPMorgan, covering corporate finance with a particular focus on industrial and transportation sectors.
His credentials are matched by an impressive academic background: a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance from Princeton University followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School. This educational foundation equips him with the analytical skills and strategic thinking necessary for spearheading substantial investments in vital infrastructure projects.
In his first comments following the appointment, Remtula expressed his enthusiasm about WaterEquity's mission. He stated, “WaterEquity's concentrated effort to tackle the pressing water and sanitation crisis is genuinely inspiring. Joining this exceptional team brings me excitement as we work together to devise investment solutions that enhance essential services and resilience for underserved communities globally.”
The timing of Remtula's appointment is crucial, especially after WaterEquity successfully raised over $100 million for its Water Climate Resilience Fund in 2024. The company is strategically positioned to identify and invest in infrastructure projects and growth enterprises that deliver scalable solutions for climate-resilient water and sanitation systems.
Marlene Hormes, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at WaterEquity, highlighted the importance of Remtula's role. She commented, “Aleem’s insight and experience in emerging markets are critical as we enhance our investment strategies to confront the urgent challenges in water and sanitation. His extensive background in private equity and impact investing aligns impeccably with our mission to deploy capital in ways that generate meaningful benefits for low-income communities.”
