This renewal extends its operational life by 20 years, allowing the facility to continue providing electricity through to the years 2053 and 2054.

All of Duke Energy's nuclear plants have initially received renewal licenses to operate up to 60 years, with the subsequent renewal process capable of extending that to 80 years.
