This prestigious recognition celebrates her unwavering commitment over 25 years to strengthen the ties between military installations and the supportive communities around them.
A Focus on Quality of Life
Kilberg’s work has centered on enhancing the quality of life for service members and their families. She believes that the efforts to connect military bases with local communities not only foster collaboration but also improve mission readiness across defense communities.
"I’m proud to represent the collaborative spirit that defines Florida’s defense communities and the ongoing partnerships that keep our state strong and ready to serve,” Kilberg stated. This recognition isn’t merely a personal achievement; she emphasizes it as a reflection of the collective commitment of numerous individuals dedicated to supporting military families and facilities.
The Florida Defense Alliance: A Legacy of Leadership
Since its inception in 1997 under Enterprise Florida, Kilberg has significantly transformed the FDA from focusing solely on encroachment and BRAC-related challenges to a national model representing innovation and community collaboration within defense communities. Kilberg has championed a range of initiatives, including the Military Family Employment Advocacy program through CareerSource Florida, demonstrating her dedication to creating adapted solutions to the specific needs of military families.
Her efforts extend to legislation and benefits supporting military spouses, veterans, and children, ensuring Florida remains one of the most military-friendly states in the U.S.
A Community of Collaboration
Leighann Brown, branch manager at Navy Federal Credit Union, spoke highly of Kilberg's impactful services to defense communities across Florida. She stated, "Ms. Kilberg has positively impacted many defense communities across Florida, and we are excited to recognize her service through this award."
Major General (retired) Lawrence M. Martin, Jr., President of the Tampa Bay Defense Alliance, reiterated Kilberg’s influence, noting her ability to unify and align Florida’s defense communities, thereby enhancing the state’s reputation as the most military-friendly environment in the country.
"Her passion and leadership improved the lives of countless military service members, veterans, and their families," he remarked.
Awaiting the Ceremony
The award ceremony is scheduled for November 19 in Melbourne, Florida, during the Florida Defense Alliance meeting. This recognition aims not only to honor Kilberg's remarkable contributions but also to inspire others in similar roles across the nation to foster community-integrated collaborations that support military families.
