A Symposium for a Safe Cycling Society: Zero Bicycle Accidents Vision
The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), led by chairman Akio Toyoda, is taking strides towards ensuring zero traffic accident injuries and fatalities through the initiatives of the 'Tateshina Conference' committee. In partnership with the National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of Technology, TMF will host a symposium titled "Towards a Safe Cycling Society – Practices and Prospects for Zero Bicycle Accident Casualties" on March 9, 2026, at the Ookayama Campus of Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Despite a decreasing trend in overall traffic accidents, the proportion of accidents involving bicycles has been on the rise, making safety in cycling a pressing issue. While bicycles are a prevalent mode of transport, the severity of accidents involving them is significant. Due to their smaller size and greater maneuverability, bicycles can be harder to predict in terms of behavior on the roads. Therefore, there is an urgent need to promote safer practices among cyclists. This symposium will explore multifaceted approaches to enhancing bicycle safety and aims to pave the way for a safer and more secure cycling environment.
