NexTech Solutions Expands Defense Technology with Acquisition of Halcyon Days Consulting

In a strategic move to bolster its defense technology capabilities, NexTech Solutions (NTS) has announced the acquisition of Halcyon Days Consulting (HDC). This acquisition comes in light of the growing demand for advanced tactical solutions in military operations. HDC, based in Stevensville, Maryland, specializes in developing tactical mission networks (TMNs) and operational software tailored for the U.S. military and its allies. With this acquisition, NTS adds over 90 highly skilled engineers, operators, and mission specialists, thereby fortifying its workforce dedicated to delivering robust networking solutions to government clients.

The tactical mission networks created by HDC are currently deployed in some of the world’s most contested environments, including operations in Eastern Europe and the Pacific. HDC's capability to manage wide-scale, combat-proven TMNs sets it apart, with approximately 20,000 users and over 15,000 managed devices spread across two active theaters. These networks are designed on the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) framework, allowing rapid deployment, security, and seamless integration across all military echelons. Notably, NTS’s provisioning software, MANTLE, plays a crucial role in expediting the deployment process, facilitating the establishment of a complete, TAK-ready environment from weeks to mere hours.

Not only does the merger allow NTS to provide a battle-tested networking and operational software stack optimized for denied and disrupted environments, but it also enhances the delivery of tactical mission networks and cybersecurity solutions. Furthermore, HDC's TMNs leverage NTS's acclaimed full-motion video (FMV) transport product, VidTerra COMPASS, for efficiently handling integrated video and data within the TMN/TAK environment.

Joseph Paull, CEO of NTS, hailed HDC’s unique position in developing tactical networking capabilities under duress, emphasizing the invaluable operational insight HDC brings to NTS. He noted, "There is no substitute for that kind of validation that our customers will now have access to networks tested in the field under the most challenging conditions."

The acquisition is a strategic part of NTS’s growth framework since receiving a significant investment from Clairvest, a private equity firm, aimed at evolving NTS into a premier provider of defense technology solutions. This marks the sixth acquisition by NTS following the Clairvest investment, demonstrating the company's commitment to expanding its technological prowess in defense applications.

NTS and HDC are well-positioned to meet the increasing requirements from the Department of War, Department of State, and allied partners for effective, battle-prepared solutions. Biney Dhillon, Co-Founder of NTS stated that HDC’s TAK-native tactical mission networks align perfectly with the edge-first infrastructure that NTS is developing.

Together, with the synergistic capabilities of MANTLE’s deployment automation and VidTerra COMPASS’s video distribution, the collaboration presents a comprehensive TAK-centric tactical stack that promises rapid deployment along with proven operational efficacy in real-world scenarios.
