Harnessing Solar-Plus-Storage Integration for a Sustainable Future: Insights from the 2026 Annual Meeting
Embracing Green Innovations: A Look at the 2026 Annual Meeting
The 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, which took place in Dalian, China from June 23 to 25, 2026, focused on the theme "Innovating at Scale." This event gathered over 1,700 leaders across political, business, academic, and technological sectors from more than 90 countries, aiming to foster meaningful dialogues on pressing global issues such as the economy, climate action, and cutting-edge technologies.
Amidst this vibrant exchange of ideas, Zhong Baoshen, the Chairman and General Manager of LONGi, stood out during a roundtable discussion titled "Follow the Money Where Climate Capital Is Going." He brought attention to the transformative potential of solar-plus-storage integration in driving decarbonization. According to him, the integration of these technologies not only addresses climate challenges but also serves as a strategic approach for fostering local economic growth and enhancing energy independence.
Zhong noted the unique advantages of photovoltaic (solar) and wind energy, which are more uniformly distributed than traditional fossil fuels like oil and gas. This attribute allows various regions across the globe to capitalize on renewable energy, thereby promoting equitable access and enhancing overall energy autonomy. He emphasized that adopting renewable energy solutions is not just advantageous for environmental reasons but is pivotal for local economic vitality, security, and energy resilience.
Over the last 15 years, advancements in technology have led to a staggering 90% reduction in the costs associated with solar energy generation. This progress, he explained, is largely attributable to the contributions of Chinese firms like LONGi that continually push the technological envelope. Despite these gains, the industry faces hurdles, particularly concerning grid integration and the intermittent nature of solar energy production. Nevertheless, Zhong asserted that declining energy storage costs present an exciting opportunity to overcome these barriers, enabling a robust renewable energy landscape.
Through innovative solutions that blend solar and wind energy generation with energy storage, a genuine transition to relying entirely on renewable energy sources for power systems is becoming increasingly feasible. At LONGi, Zhong highlighted their strategic commitment to solar-plus-storage integration. The company's plan includes enhancing conversion efficiencies, developing cost-effective solutions, and fostering deep integration of solar energy technologies with buildings, transportation, and various other sectors.
Additionally, LONGi is focused on improving the storage capabilities of solar energy, allowing for effective electricity storage and demand-based energy dispatching. This vision aims to make renewable energies not just accessible but also reliable and economically viable to meet diverse living and working requirements. However, realizing this vision necessitates ongoing technological advancements, particularly in areas such as power generation forecasting, energy management, and grid dispatch systems. Fortunately, developmental conditions for clean energy deployment are turning increasingly favorable on a global scale.
On the capital side, Zhong stressed that the disparities in financing costs across regions can dramatically influence clean energy adoption rates. He urged the international community to collaborate with financial institutions and public welfare organizations to innovate solutions that can lower interest rates where financing costs are high. Such measures are crucial to enable local development opportunities for renewable energies. He also underscored the potential benefits of granting priority treatment to green energy projects in more developed regions, allowing these initiatives to secure reasonable profits, thus facilitating wider adoption.
China is pioneering efforts to promote carbon reduction responsibilities across various sectors, favoring the prioritization of renewable energy sources in its development policies. In alignment with this initiative, LONGi has been actively developing diverse products, such as microgrid systems that seamlessly integrate photovoltaics and energy storage, distributed energy systems featuring intelligent forecasting and dispatch capabilities, and photovoltaic pumping solutions employed in arid regions.
By advancing both technological innovations and removing barriers through strategic capital and policy actions, Zhong Baoshen envisions a future where the large-scale deployment of clean energy technology is accelerated. As finance, societal support, and corporate innovations converge, the world will be better positioned to tackle climate change and pivot towards a sustainable future powered by renewable energy solutions.
