TCL X5 Energy Storage System Now Available for Commercial Use in Europe
TCL X5 Energy Storage System Available in Europe
TCL SunPower, a leader in solar energy solutions, has officially announced that its hybrid energy storage system, the TCL X5, is now available for order across Europe. This launch marks a significant expansion of the company’s offerings, moving beyond solar generation and residential storage solutions to cater to commercial and industrial customers.
Simplifying Installation for Small Businesses
The TCL X5 is engineered to streamline the battery installation process by integrating a 50 kW hybrid inverter directly within the unit. This pre-assembled design eliminates the complexities associated with transporting and installing separate inverters. By arriving on-site as a plug-and-play solution, the X5 can lessen installation and last-mile transport costs by up to 60%, making it an attractive option for small businesses that might otherwise struggle with more complicated setups.
Steven Zhang, General Manager of TCL SunPower Global, emphasizes that this introduction is the first step in a broader strategy to provide a full range of energy solutions tailored for commercial uses in Europe. "In the coming 12 months, we plan to expand our offerings to include hybrid storage systems suitable for small and medium enterprises up to megawatt-scale solutions. Our established expertise in power electronics and manufacturing will now be directed towards energy storage, kickstarting a much more extensive journey into this market."
Tailored for Diverse Energy Needs
The X5 system addresses specific market needs, particularly for installations that are too small to justify custom battery storage solutions but have demands exceeding what residential solutions can provide. With its high flexibility, the X5 can adapt to a wide range of applications, supporting grid-tied, off-grid, and microgrid operations. In island mode, it can activate within 20 milliseconds and can start automatically without needing a grid connection or photovoltaic systems.
The base unit offers nominal capacities of 50 kWh or 100 kWh, with the option to extend up to 400 kWh by connecting up to four units in parallel. This scalability allows users to start with one unit and expand their energy capacity as demands rise without replacing the existing system.
The compact design of the X5 makes it suitable for spaces that cannot accommodate larger systems, standing at a height of 1.9 meters, occupying just 1.37 square meters, and weighing 1,200 kg. The system also features an IP66 rating for the inverter and IP55 for the cabinet, making it robust against dust and water. It operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -30 °C to 50 °C, ideal for rooftop installations, outdoor settings, and industrial environments.
Advanced Safety Features
Safety and system management are integral to the X5's design. It includes three levels of monitoring, covering the cabinet, battery pack, and individual cells, which can detect gas leaks, fires, and cut off power in case of arc faults. Users can manage the system through TCL’s EMS controller with either a web interface or app. The system is compatible with Virtual Power Plants (VPP) and meets cybersecurity requirements specified by the GDPR and ETSI EN303645 standards.
Real-World Applications
Initial deployments are already demonstrating the X5's adaptability in real-world applications. For example, in Spain, installer Electricidad EUFON utilized the TCL X5 to transform a previously isolated solar water pumping system into a hybrid setup with battery storage. Adolfo Bartolomé Redondo, the Renewable Energy Manager at Electricidad EUFON, reported that the TCL X5 helped them enhance a water pumping system that serviced an agricultural operation, thereby allowing for energy storage utilization beyond daylight hours and reducing reliance on diesel generation.
Support and Future Developments
The TCL X5 is now available throughout Europe, supported by a comprehensive service program that includes installation, commissioning, and post-sale support. Installers and facility owners can learn more about this system through an upcoming webinar co-hosted by TCL SunPower and pv magazine on October 23.
