QuEra Computing and HPE Join Forces for Enhanced Quantum Computing Solutions in HPC
QuEra Computing and HPE Partner for Quantum Computing Integration
QuEra Computing, a leader in neutral-atom quantum computing, recently announced an exciting collaboration with HPE aimed at integrating fault-tolerant quantum computing systems into high-performance computing (HPC) environments. This partnership is designed to equip organizations, including HPC centers and national laboratories, with enhanced quantum capabilities on-site using the HPE Cray supercomputing platform.
Bridging Quantum and Classical Computing
The essence of this collaboration is to facilitate a new hybrid workflow where fault-tolerant quantum computing operates alongside classical supercomputing. In scenarios where classical systems face the challenge of resolving complex subproblems, quantum systems will step in to offer solutions. Organizations that utilize large classical computational resources will benefit from diverse options to harness quantum computing—whether through the cloud, on-premises, or a hybrid approach.
This initiative aligns with critical national priorities in the U.S. For instance, it supports the Genesis Mission led by the U.S. Department of Energy, which aims to establish an integrated science discovery platform merging AI, supercomputing, quantum systems, and advanced scientific instruments to drive breakthroughs in various fields, including energy and national security.
Integrated Testbeds and Performance Benchmarking
QuEra and HPE are committed to developing integrated testbeds and focusing on hybrid algorithm co-design, software interoperability, and extensive performance benchmarking at the system level. The HPE Cray supercomputing foundation will create an optimal environment for these hybrid workflows, allowing QuEra's fault-tolerant systems to seamlessly integrate with demanding workloads.
Since their collaboration commenced in 2025, QuEra’s innovative quantum solutions were showcased at HPE's Discover event in Las Vegas in 2026, highlighting the potential of magic-state features in supporting hybrid quantum-classical solutions.
Yuval Boger, Chief Commercial Officer at QuEra, emphasized, "Introducing neutral-atom fault-tolerant systems into an HPC environment presents unique engineering challenges compared to delivering quantum computing via the cloud. HPE's extensive supercomputing expertise enables organizations to address these challenges at the required scale."
Dr. Masoud Mohseni, Director of HPE Quantum, underscored the significance of merging quantum and classical computing for organizations handling complex workloads. Their partnership seeks to enhance fault-tolerant quantum capabilities within HPC settings and illuminate a pathway from current supercomputers to future hybrid systems.
Two Paths to Quantum Computing
With this partnership, QuEra offers organizations two complementary strategies to adopt its fault-tolerant quantum systems:
1. On-Premises Deployment through HPE: This route caters to organizations needing on-site systems for sovereignty, data residency, or close integration with existing workflows. Through HPE's infrastructure, QuEra plans to integrate its solutions with the Cray supercomputing platform, including potential gigaquop systems.
2. Cloud Access via Major Cloud Providers: Organizations can also leverage Libra, QuEra's first fault-tolerant quantum computer, expected to be cloud-ready by 2028. This megaquop-class system can execute around one million reliable logical operations.
The synergy of these two paths forms a unified approach. Organizations can commence operations in the cloud to develop expertise and applications, subsequently leading to on-premises installations to maintain data integrity and sovereignty.
Conversely, those opting for on-premises systems can initially utilize cloud resources for production workloads until their systems are fully operational, thus retaining flexibility in computational capacity.
Boger stated, "Both cloud access and on-premises deployment provide complementary solutions, differing primarily in where systems are hosted. We are thrilled to align with HPE. Our combined offerings ensure optimal solutions for customers requiring either cloud, on-premises, or both solutions for their applications."
In conclusion, the collaboration between QuEra Computing and HPE represents a significant leap in the field of quantum computing integrated into HPC environments. As technology evolves, such partnerships will undoubtedly unlock new possibilities and drive innovation across various sectors.
