SEGA NET Mahjong MJ Official App for the National High School Mahjong Championship
SEGA Corporation, under the leadership of COO Kazushi Uchiumi, is thrilled to announce that its popular network Mahjong game,
SEGA NET Mahjong MJ, is the chosen official app for the
2nd National High School Mahjong Championship, organized by
Asahi Shimbun Company, led by CEO Katsushi Kakuta.
An Exciting Follow-up to the Inaugural Event
After the successful first event, where the Tokyo Metropolitan Koishikawa Secondary Education School team took home the championship trophy, this year's competition aims to crown the best high school Mahjong team in Japan. With the rise of young players motivated by the professional Mahjong league,
M League, this championship is set against a backdrop of increasing interest in Mahjong as a competitive sport.
Last summer, the inaugural event saw participation from
286 teams comprising 572 students from
180 schools across the nation. The upcoming championship will feature live broadcasts of some semifinal matches and the finals on the
ABEMA Mahjong Channel. This year, the new collaboration with Kawai Juku Group focuses on researching how playing Mahjong, recognized as a high-level intellectual sport, can enhance students' abilities.
Competition Details
The preliminary rounds will be hosted at
N High School campuses located in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. All matches will be conducted using the official tournament application,
SEGA NET Mahjong MJ, and Konami's
Mahjong Fight Club Sp. The national competition will not only include app-based gameplay but also incorporate real-life matches using automated tables. Interested participants can register through the official tournament website, with organizers eagerly anticipating numerous challengers.
