Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center Chooses RaySearch for Advanced Cancer Treatments

In a significant stride towards enhancing cancer care, Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center (DSMC) in South Korea has announced its selection of RaySearch Laboratories' RayStation and RayCare systems for its new proton treatment center. This groundbreaking development, set to commence installation in the second quarter of 2028, positions DSMC as a pioneering force in patient-centered cancer treatment, aiming to welcome its first patients by the end of 2029.

Located in the Daegu region, DSMC is about to become the country's third proton center, following the National Cancer Center and Samsung Medical Center. What sets this facility apart is its location outside major metropolitan areas, thereby expanding access to advanced cancer therapies for a wider patient demographic. The introduction of the ProTom Radiance 330 proton therapy system marks a significant advancement in their treatment capabilities, spearheading the future of oncology in the region.

Combining the innovative features of RayStation and RayCare allows DSMC to streamline its treatment planning and oncology information management into an integrated workflow. This integration enhances capabilities such as synchrotron-based proton pencil beam scanning therapy, enabling precise radiation delivery that minimizes exposure to healthy tissues. This technique is especially beneficial for treating cancers located in sensitive areas like the head and neck, the spinal cord, and for pediatric patients; all of which contribute to better quality of life and fewer side-effects.

Dr. Chi-Heum Cho, President of DSMC, expressed enthusiasm about the new systems, stating, "We are pleased to introduce RayStation and RayCare at the new proton therapy center. These advanced systems will enable the establishment of a more precise and efficient cancer treatment framework, setting new standards for oncology care that are competitive not only within Korea but also on a global scale."

The CEO of RaySearch, Johan Löf, also shared his thoughts, emphasizing South Korea's reputation for housing some of the most sophisticated radiation therapy facilities globally. He indicated that the interest in RayStation and RayCare represents a milestone for the company and reflects the trust placed in them by DSMC.
