Pivot Bio and Soil and Water Outcomes Fund Join Forces for Sustainable Ag Expansion
Pivot Bio and Soil and Water Outcomes Fund Join Forces
In an exciting development for sustainable agriculture, Pivot Bio, a leading agtech innovator, has announced a new partnership with the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund (SWOF). This collaboration aims to expand the use of Pivot Bio's advanced nitrogen-fixing products, specifically the PROVEN® 40 and PROVEN® G3 corn offerings, across farms in Indiana and Illinois. This initiative marks a significant step in promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices and reducing synthetic fertilizer reliance.
Driving Sustainable Agriculture Forward
The partnership is built on the foundation of providing farmers with farmer-friendly programs that integrate Pivot Bio's environmentally sustainable technologies. Farmers participating in SWOF will now have access to these groundbreaking products, allowing them to use biologically fixed nitrogen for their crops. This shift not only promotes the reduction of synthetic fertilizer usage but also helps achieve tangible benefits in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen runoff. Consequently, farmers can maintain or even enhance their yield performance while contributing to a healthier environment.
Lori Reese, the head of commercial sustainability at Pivot Bio, expressed optimism about the partnership: "This collaboration with SWOF represents a natural evolution of our sustainability program, N-OVATOR®, which is helping transform nitrogen management across the U.S. By replacing a portion of synthetic nitrogen with our proprietary biological nitrogen, coupled with other SWOF-eligible practices such as reduced tillage and cover cropping, farmers can explore groundbreaking opportunities to amplify both environmental effects and economic returns."
Economic Incentives for Farmers
The combined efforts of SWOF and Pivot Bio offer farmers a substantial economic incentive. Since the inception of Pivot Bio's N-OVATOR program in 2022, farmers have received over $13 million for verified nitrogen replacements, with 1.4 million acres currently enrolled as of 2024. SWOF, recognizing the value of environmental actions, compensates farmers an average of $33 per acre for engaging in conservation practices, thereby unlocking additional revenue streams for farmers while they work towards sustainability.
Farmers who have implemented Pivot Bio's products have seen a notable impact: a reduction of over 37 pounds of synthetic nitrogen usage per acre, alongside an impressive 16% increase in nitrogen-use efficiency. By opting for SWOF enrollment, growers gain access to revenue opportunities, effectively translating their positive environmental efforts into measurable economic gains.
A Game-Changer in Fertilizer Management
Reese highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "Our products already enhance nitrogen management's predictability and profitability for farmers. Now, with SWOF's assistance, they have the opportunity to be rewarded for their efforts to improve water quality and reduce emissions." This partnership stands as a prime example of how agricultural technology and conservation-focused programs can synergize to foster sustainable farming practices.
Adam Kiel from SWOF echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of effective fertilizer management in achieving substantial emission reductions in agriculture. By offering diverse solutions to farmers, they can work toward achieving meaningful environmental outcomes across wider scales.
Immediate Implementation and Future Prospects
With this partnership officially in effect, Pivot Bio products are now available for order for the upcoming 2026 agricultural season. Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of these offerings to maximize their agronomic performance while capitalizing on ecosystem service payments.
