Kraton Unveils New Climate and Resource Efficiency Targets for 2032

In a significant move toward sustainability, Kraton Corporation, a leading manufacturer of specialty polymers and high-value biobased chemicals, has set ambitious long-term goals to enhance its climate and resource efficiency. Announced on November 10, 2025, these targets aim for substantial reductions in carbon emissions, water use, and waste generation by the year 2032, demonstrating Kraton's commitment to fostering sustainable practices throughout its operations.

As part of this goal-setting process, Kraton conducted a comprehensive assessment of its emissions and resource efficiency. This evaluation included energy audits, renewable energy planning, and assessments of water and waste management practices across its facilities. The outcome is a robust catalog of targets that strengthen Kraton's position as a reliable partner in the transition toward a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy.

Marcello Boldrini, CEO of Kraton, emphasized, "At Kraton, sustainability is at the core of how we create value, innovate, and look toward the future." The new long-term objectives underscore the company's dedication to making a meaningful impact across all operations and the supply chain, while also supporting customers in achieving their own sustainability goals.

The new targets extend from 2022 to 2032, building on Kraton's strong track record of environmental performance. From 2014 to 2024, the company successfully reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity by 35%. This equates to an absolute reduction of 41% in total Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, a significant achievement that surpasses average reductions seen across other industries.

Key Sustainability Goals for 2032 (compared to the base year of 2022)

  • - Scope 1 and Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 30% absolute reduction
  • - Scope 3.1 (Purchased Goods and Services) GHG Emissions: 30% intensity reduction
  • - Water Consumption: 10% intensity reduction
  • - Waste Generation: 10% intensity reduction

Rogier Roelen, Chief Sustainability Officer, noted, "Our new goals are designed to meet customer expectations concerning transparency, innovation, decarbonization of upstream raw materials, and resource efficiency, while maintaining the flexibility necessary for continued growth." He further stated that Kraton’s supplier engagement program will be crucial in meeting these objectives, and the company will continue to collaborate closely with partners to drive progress together.

In line with its vision of "creating innovative solutions for a sustainable tomorrow," Kraton is expanding its portfolio of sustainable products, supported by reliable lifecycle assessment data and third-party certifications such as ISCC PLUS. This initiative aims to assist customers in reducing environmental impacts throughout the product lifecycle.

For the fifth consecutive year, Kraton has received the EcoVadis Platinum rating, an acknowledgment of the company’s ongoing dedication to enhancing sustainability performance, management, and reporting.
