Global Leaders Convene in Bridgetown to Tackle Energy and Climate Issues Ahead of 2030 Goals
Global Forum on Sustainable Energy: A Critical Step Towards a Brighter Future
From March 12 to 13, 2025, Bridgetown, Barbados will host the much-anticipated Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Global Forum. This significant gathering comes at a pivotal time as the world stands just five years away from achieving the 2030 Global Goals, particularly focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
The forum is set to convene over 1000 high-ranking officials from various sectors, including government leaders, business executives, representatives from development institutions, civil society members, and youth organizations. The atmosphere is expected to be electrifying, as attendees gather not only to celebrate past achievements but to forge new collaborations and propose practical pathways towards equitable energy transitions.
This sixth edition of the SEforALL Global Forum will be held under the theme “Sustainable Energy for Equity, Security and Prosperity.” Notably, it marks the first time this event is being hosted in the Latin America and Caribbean region, showcasing Barbados as a leader in promoting sustainable energy practices.
Among the confirmed speakers are influential figures such as H.E. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, and H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone. They will be joined by Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, and various other prominent leaders from around the globe, including national ministers and heads of organizations focused on climate action.
The Government of Barbados is co-hosting this event, reinforcing its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and advocating for a cleaner energy future. Minister Lisa Cummins of the Barbados government stated, “Barbados is dedicated to a sustainable energy transition both within and beyond our borders. Partnering with Sustainable Energy for All on this Global Forum signifies a crucial moment in addressing climate justice and supporting developing countries in their energy transition efforts.”
Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and UN Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All, emphasized Barbados’s role as a frontrunner in energy transitions and its substantial contributions under Prime Minister Mottley’s leadership. Ogunbiyi asserted, “Hosting the 2025 SEforALL Global Forum here will generate groundbreaking commitments and collaborations to eradicate energy poverty and combat climate change.”
The discussions will feature two Ministerial Roundtables designed to foster international collaboration and boost investment in energy initiatives for developing economies. Additionally, the forum will unveil various launch initiatives, including innovative financing solutions through the DRE fund and share national energy transition ambitions where countries will present their energy strategies and investment plans.
Highlights of the forum will also include the announcement of the first-ever Energy Heroes Award winners, celebrating transformative ideas that have made a real-world impact in the energy sector.
As the forum draws near, anticipation grows for strategic insights and a detailed roadmap to improve climate finances, which will be presented ahead of COP30 later this year. This promises to be an unforgettable gathering of minds, dedicated to creating actionable solutions for energy and climate challenges.
