Support for Older Adults Affected by 2025 Eaton Fire Through Direct Cash Aid

Direct Cash Aid Offered to Older Adults Impacted by Eaton Fire

In a significant show of community support, older adults who suffered losses in the catastrophic Eaton Fire of 2025 are now receiving crucial financial aid. Thanks to a partnership between the California Community Foundation (CCF) and Pasadena Village, impacted seniors are finding hope and assistance to rebuild their lives.

Following the disaster that destroyed countless homes and displaced families, CCF allotted a grant to Pasadena Village specifically aimed at providing direct cash support to those affected. To ensure the funds were distributed fairly, Pasadena Village assembled a thoughtful recovery team composed of nine older adults. This team was tasked with devising a transparent and equitable process for distributing the funds to wildfire survivors.

In February 2026, the recovery team successfully finalized grants for 61 senior residents impacted by the Eaton Fire. The grants ranged from $5,000 to $8,175, effectively reaching those in dire need of financial assistance. Most notably, over 40 recipients identified as Black or African American. While 52 individuals lost their homes entirely, others are still awaiting repairs for homes severely compromised by smoke and ash.

Elderly Altadena resident John Jackson, aged 80, embodied the struggles many are facing. Having lost his home of over 50 years, Jackson described the overwhelming support he received from the Village. "The Village has offered me unbelievable support," he expressed. Unlike many recipients who sought electronic replacements, Jackson needed tools to help him restore his workshop, characterized by hand-crafted items and woodworking tools that were irreplaceable and uninsured.

For Jackson, woodworking has transcended being a hobby; it has become his purpose and passion. He hopes to rebuild both his home and his workshop, with plans to procure essential equipment like table saws, routers, and planers.
