Embrace the Spirit of Japanese Seasonal Culture at the Ikebana Event
On September 5, 2026, Roppongi Hills’ Mukyu restaurant will host a unique event in collaboration with Ryoko Nishioka, a master of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, under the theme of "Ikebana for Heart and Mind Reset". This event aligns with the celebration of the Choyo Festival, also known as the Chrysanthemum Festival, dedicated to honoring health and longevity through the art of flower arrangement.
Mukyu, located in the trendy Roppongi Hills area, emphasizes showcasing Japanese culture not just as a meal experience but as an immersive cultural journey that includes aesthetics such as tableware, atmosphere, actions, and hospitality. The restaurant’s motto, "Shaping Dreams! Spreading Japanese Cuisine Worldwide!", encapsulates its mission to spread the love and appreciation of Japanese culinary arts globally.
To further their mission, Mukyu has continuously hosted events that combine Japanese cuisine with traditional cultural experiences. Previous events have included themes ranging from kimono dress-up to tea ceremony workshops, offering unique opportunities to engage in rich cultural experiences.
A Unique Mindful Experience
As modern life accelerates with digital technologies, busy professionals often face the challenge of information overload. In response, there's a growing interest in “active mindfulness,” where individuals can disconnect from distractions through focused engagement.
Ikebana provides an ideal escape. Participants can immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of scissors, the pleasant aroma of flowers, and the tactile joy of working with materials. This non-verbal process allows one to forget the passage of time and concentrate solely on creating beautiful arrangements. By momentarily stepping away from daily logical thinking, individuals can quiet the noise in their minds and enhance their mental well-being.
This event will incorporate seasonal flowers, such as chrysanthemums, into the Ikebana experience. Attendees can expect a luxurious, sensory-filled atmosphere designed to rejuvenate the spirit.
Event Highlights
1.
Ikebana Workshop - Arrange Chrysanthemums for Choyo
Participate alongside Ryoko Nishioka in a hands-on Ikebana workshop where you will create beautiful arrangements using autumn flowers. All tools and materials will be provided, and participants can take home their creations to enjoy the fall ambiance further.
2.
Traditional Afternoon Tea
After refreshing the mind and spirit through Ikebana, participants will partake in a special afternoon tea designed exclusively by Chef Shodairo Igarashi for this event. The culinary offerings will reflect the themes of longevity and wellness associated with the Choyo Festival and highlight the delicate tastes and visuals of autumn. Please note that menu items may vary based on seasonal availability.
3.
Signature Fresh Fruit Daifuku & Matcha
To conclude the culinary experience, Mukyu will serve its famed fresh fruit daifuku, made live before your eyes right at your table. The soft texture of these handmade treats, paired with matcha prepared meticulously by the chef, will offer a delightful end to the event.
Understanding the Choyo Festival
The Choyo Festival, celebrated on September 9, is one of the traditional Five Seasonal Festivals in Japan, alongside the Peach Festival on March 3 and the Boys' Festival on May 5. It has been treasured throughout history as an auspicious day due to the significance of the number nine, which is considered a lucky odd number. The ninth month, which coincides with the blooming of chrysanthemums, is also recognized as the “Chrysanthemum Festival.” This festival is deeply rooted in wishes for health and longevity, drawing on the vitality associated with chrysanthemums.
This event at Mukyu seeks to bring the beautiful ideals of this historical festival to life by engaging attendees with the flowers and the seasonal cuisine to foster a rich appreciation for Japanese culture.
