How AI is Transforming Manufacturing: Insights from AI Data's Forum on Production Management

The Evolution of Manufacturing Through AI: Key Insights from AI Data's Recent Forum

The manufacturing industry is undergoing a significant transformation, thanks to the advancement of AI technologies. On March 17, AI Data Corporation, led by its president Takahito Sasaki, hosted the “AI孔明™ × AI/DX Forum on Production Management.” This event brought together industry leaders and experts to discuss how AI can be strategically utilized to turn the overwhelming amount of data generated within companies into powerful tools for innovation and efficiency.

AI Focused on Real Solutions

During the first session, Takahito Sasaki emphasized the pressing challenges faced by small to medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Japan, such as weak negotiating power, workforce shortages, and inefficient inventory management. He proposed several solutions utilizing AI孔明™, including demand forecasting and production optimization. By leveraging a company’s unique data alongside AI, organizations can now strengthen their intellectual property (IP) strategies and significantly enhance their competitiveness.

Sasaki also highlighted the ease of integrating AI孔明™ into manufacturing processes without lengthy implementation times, making it a feasible option for those in the industry. He underscored the need to embrace the power of generative AI within manufacturing settings.

Bridging Data and Intellectual Property

In the second session, Daisuke Shida, the CTO of AI Data Corporation, discussed the integration of production management with IP strategy through generative AI. Drawing parallels with the strategies of Zhuge Liang from the Chinese historical novel, Shida provided insights on how AI can assist in production planning, inventory control, cost optimization, and problem-solving. He presented a demonstrative case involving a fictional frozen food manufacturer, showcasing how AI streamlines processes from sensor data collection to complaint analysis and resource management.

Shida emphasized that accumulated technological information at manufacturing sites could be harnessed to support patent applications, helping to transform the unique know-how of small businesses into competitive intellectual property. He further articulated the importance of security and reliability in AI implementations, portraying AI孔明 as a “strategic AI advisor” for companies.

Building an Applicable Data Foundation

Yoshihisa Tominaga from JDSC addressed the theme of what constitutes a truly usable data foundation in his talk. He explained that while many companies have made strides in building data infrastructures, the challenge remains in leveraging that data effectively. Tominaga emphasized seamless “visualization,” “classification,” and “prediction” as crucial aspects of data utilization. He shared practical examples from the manufacturing industry, such as optimizing workforce shifts and logistics through enhanced data visibility and analysis.

Through collaboration with SCSK Corporation, JDSC has developed a “Business Data Platform,” utilizing templated scenarios and essential data points to enable rapid visualization and analysis. By bridging gaps between production sites and IT departments, the platform facilitates advanced AI utilization. Tominaga concluded with an appeal for companies to prioritize visualization as the first step towards effective AI integration.

Step-by-Step Digital Transformation

The forum also included a session led by Tomoko Hiratsuka, the president of EDL Corporation and chairperson of the 10X Design Association. She introduced the
