BRI Expands Financial Services with the Opening of Taipei Branch for Indonesian Workers

BRI Expands into Taiwan: A Financial Hub for Indonesian Migrants

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, also known as BRI, has marked a significant milestone with the opening of its Taipei branch, strategically located on Nanjing East Road in Zhongshan District, Taipei City. This branch is the first of its kind established by an Indonesian bank in Taiwan, aimed at addressing the banking needs of the approximately 360,000 Indonesian migrant workers residing in the country.

The Grand Launching Ceremony

The grand opening ceremony took place on August 8, 2025, where BRI's President Director, Hery Gunardi, underscored the importance of this branch as a comprehensive financial service hub. He stated, "BRI Taipei Branch is not just about us; it is about the community we serve, giving Indonesian workers access to essential banking services such as remittances, savings, and investment solutions for their future."

Services Offered

The BRI Taipei Branch is set to provide a variety of financial services that include savings accounts, loans, and remittance options. Aimed at enhancing the banking experience for its clients, the branch will also introduce the Advance FX Licence and BRI ATM cards that are compatible with Taiwan's banking network. As Hery further explained, “This allows us to cater to the unique financial needs of our clients, ensuring that they have seamless access to their funds regardless of where they are.”

With the establishment of this branch, BRI hopes to serve as a crucial investment gateway linking Taiwan and Indonesia. Notably, Hery expressed confidence in attracting Taiwanese investors to Indonesia, stating, “With more competitive investment yields, we believe this will create greater interest from potential investors.”

Economic Significance

The launching ceremony also featured Arif Sulistyo, the Head of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei, who spoke about the economic ties between Indonesia and Taiwan. He shared valuable insights, highlighting that nearly 400,000 Indonesians, primarily working in caregiving and manufacturing sectors, significantly contribute to Taiwan's economy.

Formal Indonesian workers in Taiwan earn competitive wages—those in manufacturing earn roughly 28,590 NTD (approximately IDR 14 million), while domestic workers earn around 20,000 NTD (IDR 10 million). This influx of labor not only supports growth in the Taiwanese economy but also contributes to significant remittance flows back to Indonesia that exceed IDR 40 trillion annually.

New Innovative Products

To further enhance its service provision, BRI Taipei Branch has introduced two innovative products: BRImo Taiwan and BRI Taipei Future Saving. The BRImo Taiwan is a banking super app designed for smooth transactions, including straightforward remittances to Indonesia. On the other hand, the BRI Taipei Future Saving offers a time deposit program in NTD, which includes flexible installment options over 12, 24, or 36 months.

This significant expansion strengthens BRI's global presence, which includes existing branches and agencies in key international markets such as New York, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Such developments not only bolster BRI's strategy to enhance its international network but also to affirm its commitment to serving overseas Indonesian communities effectively.

In conclusion, the establishment of BRI's Taipei branch reflects the bank's proactive approach to addressing the banking needs of Indonesian workers and facilitating economic growth through reliable and accessible financial services.
