NComputing Unveils the RX540 Thin Client for Enhanced Performance Using Raspberry Pi Technology

NComputing Launches RX540 Thin Client

NComputing, a prominent leader in thin client technology, recently introduced its latest device, the RX540 thin client, powered by the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 platform. This innovative product represents a significant advancement in computing performance, memory bandwidth, and local GPU capabilities, making it a valuable addition to the market.

The RX540 is engineered for an extensive array of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) applications. It presents users with a remarkable combination of performance, functionality, and cost-effectiveness. By utilizing LEAF OS optimized for the CM5 platform, NComputing has successfully developed a thin client that can rival traditional x86-64 endpoints while providing economic advantages. This focus on performance optimization enhances multitasking abilities and boosts overall productivity in workplaces.

This modern thin client supports various virtualization platforms, including Citrix, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, and Remote Desktop Services (RDS), as well as NComputing’s own vSpace Pro and VERDE VDI technologies. This versatility offers businesses the flexibility to adopt the RX540 into their existing setups seamlessly. An exciting integration with Omnissa Horizon is set to be available in March 2025, enhancing the device's functionality further.

In addition to its virtualization capabilities, the RX540 comes equipped with a secure Chromium browser and a Microsoft Teams Progressive Web Application (PWA), allowing users to access the web without the need for a dedicated virtualization platform. Richard Sah, CTO of NComputing, stated, “This device signifies a remarkable progression in thin client technology, delivering the performance, compatibility, and management capabilities essential for contemporary business landscapes.” He emphasized that the RX540 not only provides increased performance but also reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprises.

The RX540’s industrial design is complemented by features such as Kensington security slots to enhance physical security and a VESA mount kit for an organized deployment. The device is powered by 4GB of RAM and 16GB of eMMC storage, with capabilities for dual-monitor setups through HDMI ports supporting resolutions up to 3840x2160 at 30Hz. Moreover, it includes two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports for efficient USB peripheral connectivity.

Additional functionalities such as built-in Wi-Fi (offering both 5GHz and 2.4GHz capabilities), enterprise-grade security protocols, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, and integrated VPN support secure its use in corporate environments. The RX540 also provides modular configurations, allowing users to adjust memory and storage options as per project requirements. An upgraded model, the RX580, boasts 8GB of RAM and expandable internal storage and is available for special orders.

For streamlined device onboarding and real-time administrative management, the RX540 includes a perpetual license for PMC Endpoint Manager, NComputing's central management software. Gordon Hollingworth, CTO (Software) at Raspberry Pi Holdings plc commented, “We are thrilled to witness NComputing harnessing the capabilities of our Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 platform in their thin clients. These devices exemplify the versatility and outstanding performance of Compute Module 5, offering enterprises an ideal solution for modern VDI and DaaS applications.”

NComputing has established itself as a leader in providing thin client solutions utilizing Raspberry Pi technology, setting a benchmark for high-performance, user-friendly, and economically viable endpoint solutions globally. The RX540 thin client is now available for order through NComputing's extensive global distribution network. For further details, visit NComputing's official page.

For any business looking to stay ahead in the dynamically changing environment of the digital age, the RX540 is positioned to deliver the power and efficiency required for today’s workforce.
